I'm new to the forum and knifemaking in general. I got turned onto this by a longtime friend that makes some really nice stuff. He invited me to his place (about a 4.5 hr drive) to forge a couple of things and answer some questions. One of the projects we are trying to accomplish over the 2 days is a working tomahawk forged from 1050. That's where the trouble began.
I started looking for the required steel for the job - 1" square bar 12" long (enough for 2). so far I haven't found anyplace that sells 1050 in that size, or even close to it. I'm pretty good with web searches, and have some good connections to scrap yards around here, but still no luck.
Can someone please point me in the right direction here, I can't believe the luck I'm having with this!
