Hard use folder suggestions?

Buck vantage select $25 and you can beat the heck out of it.

Buck bantam and bucklite max are good $15.

Leatherman crater series are pretty good to around $15.

Best of luck.

I would recommend a Cold Steel Tuff Lite (or mini) for that price range. It looks like Paul has you covered already though. What a stand up guy.

Wtlj, from one fellow (former) electrician to another, please shoot me either an email or pm with your name and address and I'll send you a new Utilitac plain edge satin blade for you to use, have and if you don't like it give it to a fellow employee/friend.

Take the $40.00 you were gonna spend on a knife and take your wife or girlfriend or both:D out for a night on the town:thumbup: or at least a good meal?

Paul, sorry for the delay and what an offer! I can't tell you how much I appreciate that and I promise it will go to good use. I just signed up for BF last week and it's become my favorite forum. I just purchased the gold membership this morning but it's still showing me as a registered user (can't send pm's etc). If you could please email or call me that'd be great!

Ps. I showed the wife your post and she's looking forward to dinner! Thanks again

I'm in the trades too. My favorite beater blade is a cold steel medium voyager tanto. I've literally hammered on it ; both the spine of the blade and the end of the grivory handle!

When I said hard use I didn't mean beating and hammering on the knife. Simply a do all knife that can get dropped in the mud, stepped on and handed to co workers. The utilitac and recon 1 look to be large toting around 60+ hours a week in and out of trenches.

Thanks for all the advice so far! I probably can't go wrong with any of these suggestions!

The recon 1 is very thin and lightweight. G10 handle with no liners. It's a little on the larger side, but you could always go with the mini. The mini is a good size. I carry it more than the full size and xl.

Update for the gang: I received the Utilitac 2 from Paul mid week and have carried every day since. Man was I wrong about it being a monster. Its a perfectly sized stout blade for heavy work use! I should have no problems with any work tasks and the price was right! 😜
It's amazing what Ontario puts out for such a value! No wonder they get so much praise.

Get a griptilian

You can not use Spydercos hard, i have a very new scar that is evidence of that

Also half a dozen youtube videos

This is the knife I have had and used for almost 30 years as a electrician a Kershaw (Japan) 3130 dual blade. The Sheep Foot blade is great for romex and stripping large cable and wire. The regular blade is used for all the other cutting you may need. It still is tight and locks nice. I have put it thru a lot of hard work and is still looking good except it shows wear on the black part from my hand using it. Not my picture my knife does not say blue mountain only Kershaw on one side and Japan 3130 on the other. Kershaw wanted Eddie Bauer to sell them and sent a set of 3(different Sizes) to look at. They did not carry them so I bought them at there employee auction for $5.00 each! I did a lot of electrical work for them.
