Hey all,

I'm looking for a hard use folder with a glass breaker on it. I thought about in a real emergency, I could stab the glass, but I don't have a folder with a glass break. I bought a ZT500 MUDD with what I thought was a glass break, but according to kershaw, that is a thumbstud on the pocket clip. One that would I know of is the Buck Bravo rescue, but it doesn't have a pocket clip. I know of the HEST 2.0, but I've read of issues with quality control.

So please recommend me a hard use folder with a glass break... Please keep the price below $300.00, yes three hundred.

Thank you much!

Don't see any F&F issues on mine...

+1 on the BM 810 Contego, the spyderco rescue knife also has a glass breaker that comes out when you squeeze the blade closed, also the Victorinox Rescue knife.

My Favorites:
BM 915 Triage
BM 810 Contego
DPX H.E.S.T. 2.0
Buck/TOPS CSAR-T(not really a knife with a glass break but the handle would double as one, it is called the Combat Search And Rescue Tool.)
Kershaw Blur with Glass Breaker?

One not mentioned:
Blackhawk CQD Mark I

Chris Reeve Umnumzaan:)
It' s the only folder with a glass breaker I have but the glass breaker is very unobtrusive without even having adding any extra parts to the knife.

Benchmade and Spydercos have carbide glass breakers .

The HEST 2.0 is a excellent knife and if you make sure its a 2.0, then you will not notice any more "quality issues" than other manufactureres.

Some other brands/knives:

Pohl Force knives.

Boker also make knives with glass breakers. Many of them are the cheapo ones from their Magnum line, but they also make the excellent Titan Defender with N690BO steel, titanium bolsters and G-10 scales. The Titan Defender has a linerlock so thick, that it dwarfs the mighty ZT0200 and 0350.

Its a great knife

The Boker Titan Lite Weight Defender also has a glass breaker. I have over thirty BM folders - no glass breakers amongst them, including the recent workhorse #275 Adamas. The CRK/WC 'StarTac' Umnumzaan uses the back end of the blade as a 'glass breaker'.

I can recommen the HEST 2.0 and Microtech Socom Elite. Of the two I would take the Socom, but that's just the way my tastes have been running lately. The HEST is a very nice knife.

The Spyderco Assist is made for Rescue work and has a Carbide tip that comes out when you squeeze the knife in it's closed position.

As a guy that actually had to break a car window in an emergency, perhaps I can lend some suggestions?

I hate anything pointy in my pockets and had long since stopped carrying anything with a proper glass breaker before I actually faced the need. Point being, you may or may not be the sort of person that actually NEEDS a glass breaker. I am NOT...and I therefore recommend carrying any knife you like that has a proud steel liner. You will have to strike harder to accomplish the task, but I would suggest that in the heat of the moment, you will easily be able to conjure the strength needed to break through.

Thumbstud on the pocket clip?

I guess older ZT 500 MUDDS had a thumbstud on the pocket clip, which I thought was a glass breaker initially.

Notice the little stud on the 2 pocket clips on the right. Those two are straight from Kershaw and they told me they were thumbstuds, not glass breaks.
Even though my MUDD is Ser. 1777, it didn't come with a thumbstud. Maybe it was only on the first 1000 or 500 that came with it.

+1 on the BM Contigo or Triage
both are amazing knives and the glass breakers are not intrusive and needle sharp as many others are.

smith and wesson first response. it has a spring glass breaker on it and it has a seat belt cutter for the blade. model number is 911

Check out the ZT0360.SKD thread in the Kershaw/ZT forum and put a vote in. It has a nice, discreet carbide glass breaker on it. We're hoping to get a run done by the end of the year. ;)
