Hard use folders for those new to the knife world under $30

It seems the problem is that people either over look the Cold Steel Voyager, or don't know it exists. It's a very tough folding knife for a little money and it comes in different sizes and blade styles. I would go about 10$ over and get a Voyager if I wanted a low cost, tough folding blade.

I check one out at a sportsmans warehouse the other day. It might be a good knife but man, to me, it's just an ugly knife. I hate the new design. If they had kept the knife like the previous years model I would recommend it. In fact, I wish I could find me a large voyager in the old style.

I don't really have a problem with either design, if I had to choose, I'd go with the new one though.

Check out a buck 486. It's about the same size as a 110 but it's lighter and has a pocket clip and thumb stud. I recently bought one as a beater work knife and besides a few scratches and dents it held up pretty good so far.

I thought it was hideous and disgusting at first as well, then it grew on me... tough as NAILS though.

I felt this way with the new design on the Recon1. Got used to it. I got tanto since it doesn't seem like the type of knife you use for anything but defense.

That's all a matter of taste, subjective in other words. The OP asked for hard use. The new Voyager is second to none in that respect (and price class).

The Rat-1 is a great choice it can take a beating, you and your friends will be pleased. Hard to beat that knife for the price, there were also some other suggestions that would work just as well. The Tenacious and the Tremor are other great recommendations...

don't be discouraged when the paint chips off the rat-1, it's a helluva knife. The enlans are pretty solid too, I find myself edc'ing these 2 - rat-1, enlan 02 - quite frecuently lately. When the paint started chipping off my rat I doodled on it with another knife, and the design has held quite good.
