"hard use heavy duty folder" vs Fixed blade?

I'm kinda curious about this barrier between a folding knife and a fixed blade. Knives like the ZT302 or Strider SNG SMF are ment to be used super hard and be almost sudo fixed blades. Especially the ZT302. But Why carry a ZT302 instead of an RC-3? I mean they weigh nearly the same and the RC-3 is a full fixed bladed knife.

Whats the barrier between a super hard use folder to a fixed blade in carry?

Some States have laws against carrying a fixed blade...

For me... I can slip a knife in and out of my pocket easier than carrying one on a sheath. That and unless you can conceal your 9" fixed blade.. people tend to frown upon carrying those in public... Which is why I love izula's and other small fixed blades.. BUT I mostly work in an office, and often go straight from that to situations where I might need a tough blade.. a strong folder certainly makes more sense (or a folder + fixed in my car... which I do as well) for such situations.

I have found that a strong folder carries easier and more concealed than a fixed, and so unless I'm doing something crazy, I'd rather carry the folder. I like the idea of my folder being nearly as strong as a fixed.. and I've yet to break one...

I carried a ZT 301 for a while and now I carry a HEST I will say that I have gotten more strange looks form the non knife crowd taking out the HEST than the folding blade... a close friend said " You carry a fixed blade all the time now?" with a kinda creeped out look on his face..... I never got those looks with any folder. its not going to move the HEST out of my pocket but maybe folder are just more accepted in "polite" society

Some people won't carry fixed blades for legal purposes or it might just be practical for their situation. Here in CA for example, fixed blades can't legally be carried concealed. It's much more practical for me to carry a concealed folder.

I am moving to colorado where if i am reading the laws right my zt 301 is illegal to carry concealed but my HEST isnt a knife as it has less than a 3.5 inch blade... laws are strange

I never use a four inch blade hard enough to need a fixed blade, to tell the truth.
I like BIG fixed blade knives.
I find a good solid folder suits my needs great, and doesn't get weird looks, like a previous poster mentioned.:)
Any of the "hard use" knives out there meet my knife needs for blades up to 4 inches.

Carrying a folding knife is much more practical for me, both at work and on a day-to-day basis. It's also more discreet than carrying a fixed blade, as concealed fixed blades would likely get me into trouble with the law.

In WA state, there is no state rule for fixed blades, but city rules. Its a hassle if you can carry a fixed blade in one city but can't in another.:thumbdn:

dont know about the knives you chose to name being sudo fixed blade knives. but its done so whens the review gonna be? strider or zt vs. ... say pick your poison on a fixed blade, rat3 or esse 4 and put them to the test. i think at some point you will find your answer.

i think fixed blades in 5" and up length have no comparable folders. and hd folding knives in any blade length are not a match for the abuse a fixed blade can handle. so you need something that fits in your pocket and can carry easy daily , you trade off some size/ weight and overall strength for a folder. ill admit theres some nice folders but on average even the better ones wont be put to or handle the kind of abuse that a same size fixed blade could handle daily.
thats why we are not limited to owning only one knife.

I can carry my CS Rajah 2 legally but have to keep my BRKT Necker at home due to legalities, that's about the state of things in California.

Depends completely on my enviroment. But even that is mostly dependent on how other people view things. I can get away with carrying a folder at one job just barely, no way could I carry a fixed blade much longer than 4" overall, but at the other job, or out and about in the woods or outdoors I wouldn't be caught without my rc3 most days. At some point it becomes more practical to have a very sturdy tool vs have a people friendly tool. For me at least.

I carry my izula edc but I can do that in Canada one thing that is nice is my izzie is it was almost a third of the price of a zt301

Some States have laws against carrying a fixed blade...

NO state has ever Enacted Public Laws about knives/knifes or their ability to be carried <period>

If it's your constitutional right to own and bear arms, no one may deny you; no state, no city, no township <period>

YOU own it all; it's your property -- the land the roads the walk ways; YOU hire servants to take care of it for YOU; YOU do not answer to your servants your servants answer to YOU.

Does that make sense? "You Can Not Be A Little Bit Pregnant."

Let's see... It's completely unacceptable by modern social norms to openly display a fixed blade knife. So that rules out open carry. And it's also completely unacceptable by California law to carry concealed a fixed blade knife. So that rules out concealed carry. In other words, there is no acceptable way to carry a fixed blade in California. So there's definitely a market for a heavy duty folder here.

display, i dont "display" i carry a fixed blade openly and / or concealed and in public.
i live where law permits open and concealed carry of knives. :)

^ You and me both, but being LEGAL does not necessarily mean publicly acceptable. And sadly its easier to not deal with the sheeple than it is to deal with explaining reason/law/rationale XYZ to them for why that 8" fixed blade on your belt isn't a weapon.
