Hard wearing, heavy duty folding knife

If you are only looking to use it in your shop, maybe you should consider a fixed blade? You could get a nice custom fixed blade with a good steel for less than a ZT.

Thanks for my suggestions guys!

Is the Ontario Rat 1 good? I may just pick one up for the sake of how low the price is.

I am fond of Spyderco also, so if you know any particularly hard wearing models, let me know.

Yeah, I said price isn't an issue, but I don't really want to pay more than 250 US for a knife that is going to do the dirty work.

That said, if it is one of the knives that can handle those jobs best, I would consider it

@apintandafight

I have just been considering that option considering it isn't going anywhere, and will be stronger for the jobs I will be putting it to

Spyderco Tuff.
Tough as all hell, and right at the limit of what you say you're willing to spend.
Give in, give in to the awesomeness.:)

The knife I own that I feel best fits the bill is my Al Mar SERE 2000. It is extremely solid, quite heavy, and very durable. It is my favorite knife. I had the good fortune of getting mine for $148 NIB, I think the normal price today is around $185.

i would say benchmade contego, I just bought one last night, you get cpm-m4 steel, with a coated blade to help protect against the rust since m4 isn't stainless, I hve a gayle bradley and it never rusted but it did patina, and I'm not to fond of it now, but i love cpm-m4 or m390, both are great steels m390 is said to be equal to cpm-m4 but stainless.

From Spyderco, I would have to recommend the Tuff. It is a rather thick knife and can take quite a beating. I have seen someone rip through a 2x4 with it.

Did spyderco start doing CS tests lol? Cold steal breaks a 2x4 with every one of their knives lol.

Nope, just some guy on YouTube.
While it's a silly test of a folder, the Tuff did as well as could be.
It lives up to its name, has good ergonomics, and looks neat (although that's a matter of opinion).

I think it looks neat too, I did a test on a ontario utilitac 2 because i hear people controversy over that the lock looks thin on that and the rat 1. Now i did manage to screw it up pretty bad, it bent and went all the way over to the other side, i was lazy and didnt feel like fixing it so i just bent it back with pliers. If i took 5 minutes with pliers and a vice i could fix the bent lock and itd be like new.

I broke it by throwing it as hard as i could tip first at a tree/log and then i spine whacked it as hard as i could against a tree and after 20 minutes the knife failed, the liner failed twice and then it bent. TBH when it comes to tests like that there stupid, but kinda fun and nothing happened that cant be fixed, paid 22$ for it so id say its pretty tough.

This knife wouldn't be used at my day-job, it would stay in my workshop where it would be used for various different tasks or anything I can throw at it.

I want something heavy duty so I know I can use it without the risk of it breaking. I would also take it out with me when I go hunting/outdooring.

That isn't to say I wouldn't look after it though.

Which UK makers can you recommend me (only moved here a 2 months ago, British family but I lived in Spain).

There are some outstanding knife makers in Europe and google is of course a good start.

I wanted to forward you a link but your profile does not allow for it. Send me an email and I can point you in the right direction where you can start to look.

I will always recommend going with a custom maker that is close to you for two main reasons. 1, you support a local maker, 2, if something goes wrong you can get into contact with him without much trouble.

I am far south from the States and those two points is the main reason I have moved into custom knife makers. For import duty tax etc for a ZT0560 it costs almost $400 and a Sebenza $600 a Spyderco Military almost $350. For those prices I can get a damn fine locally made knife to my needs and I do feel that would give you what you want in a knife.

Im uk too, been looking at the spydrco lionspy , its got therotoblok to turn it into a much more tougher lockup, some been saying its nearly likea ful tang feel to it. £280 though. Very hot looking. Theres other rotos too, rotos can only be a benifit to a folder.

Pohl force Fox trot.. £230.. huggge folder 4 1/4 inch blade!!!
Dpx h'e's't. £200.. best looking knife ever¡¡¡ d2 blade
Lionspy ... elmax steel
Lion steel sr1 titanium
Lionsteel sr1a... this being the cheaper. Being one peice alluminium handle. £140

Apart from different steel the rest are one scale g10 the other scale titanium frame lock.

Think lionspys got the toughest blad steel. ELmax
