Picked up this Hardcore grinder.. can't figure out the belt release.
I can get the belt off my lowering the tension and pushing on the wheel.
But I don't think the belt release knob is working properly
In this pic, I can only twist it CCW and the wheel goes up tightening the belt.
The knob won't turn CW,
anyone have experience with this?

thanks

I did ask for and receive a manual, it's a very simple and not very detailed manual
the lever unlocks the entire swing arm and allows you to rotate the whole blue arm , pivoting around the motor shaft
the knob on the very top is a tensioner, the other small knob controls the tracking.

Replace the big wheel with a rubber contact wheel and remove the guard and you would really have something...cool grinder

Great Machine, Yours is an older one like mine.

The belt tension is too tight. leave the top tension knob alone for now and reset the tension by loosing the two 1/8" Allen head screws on the bottom of the two wheel platen assemble. They are visible in the picture just to the right of the silver drive wheel lock button with the lower 5" wheel on the right on the blue arm where in goes around the drive shaft.. I think there's just too much tension and once the arm is readjusted back about an 1" or so you should be able to tighten and set the belt by the lever. You can call me tomorrow if this is unclear and I can walk you through it.

My number is on the westside site.

John,
That's the idler wheel. You can put a 10" contact wheel on a Hardcore, its set up now with the 5" contact and the flat platen. The 5" is the drive wheel. There are one of the smoothest machines out there.

thanks Laurence , I appreciate the help
I'll be home early this afternoon from the paying job and give this a try

also I'm assuming when I change to the 10" contact wheel, I need to change to the smaller idler wheel up top?

The speed control on this thing is very fine, I can make the belt crawl at it's lowest speed, and the motor is at 2500 RPM max.

you can also just loosen the tension knob far enough so that you can rotate the belt release knob as far as it will go ccw. Then adjust the belt tension. now by turning the belt release knob cw the belt should loosen so that it can be changed and the release knob is then turn back to it's full ccw position to tighten, leaving the belt tension the same as it was prior to changing belts. yes you will need to put the smaller idler wheel on to use the ten inch contact wheel.

ok got the belt release sorted out, thanks for your assistance
and now for my next number, can this 10" contact wheel be fixed?
it's in 3 separate places

Everyone I know that uses Sunray is very happy with there work.

The wheel looks like it was stored improperly with the machine or something heavy leaning on the contact rubber.

But before you send it off, take a file first and then a heavy grit paper and remove those high spots and roll the shoulders just slightly after you have trued the flat.

I've done that on my 5" drive wheel and gotten a few more months to years out of it.
