Been using these for fishing.weld a nut to the top and tie a line to it to toggle to jetties to hold the boat in perfect position over structure.Wonder what type of steel it is.Came from corn machine, hammer mill, put whole corn in and it knocks the kernels off ,the round stock has blades that spin at high speed. If anyone wants to try a piece to forge I can send a piece to try out no charge, just curious. It is 30" by 1 1/2" I can cut to any length. It is hardened, can it be anealed? Thanks alotView attachment 522210View attachment 522211

If you can, check the center of the bar after you cut a piece to see if it is also hardened. There are a lot of ways to harden the surface of steel and the cheaper the better. If you want to make a knife, then the advice is to sell the steel for scrap and buy some steel more suitable for making a knife. If it welded up pretty easy it is probably a mild steel with case hardening. You may have found the ultimate repurpose for that steel as is:)
