Hardness tester indenter unit

In dim light, I pressed the indenter right next to tang pin hole - at full turned, the indenter skidded/jammed into the hole. Indenter tip looks fine under magnification but after 1/4 turn, piston/rod won't move w/o a lot of pressure. I think, the rod is bent...

Your advice/insight/how-to-fix would be highly appreciated.
 
Checked indenter unit & various parts are fine. Put it back together - it's working. I suspect the unloading was jammed... oh well, time to recalibrate this thing. Thanks.
