So this came home with me from the hardware store...

They had clearly tried to sell Benchmades at some point and there were just 2 knives sitting in the display case. I asked to talk to the manager who said they hadn't sold very well for them and that they wouldn't be getting any more. I asked if he would sell me the display and he let me have it for a very reasonable (I thought) $40.

My incredibly tolerant wife was...less enthusiastic. Particularly when she found out I wanted to put it in the living room. I am trying to convince her that it doesn't look THAT bad.

Assuming she let's me continue with this madness, I plan to get a bunch of those Spyderco knife stands and put a chunk of the collection out for display. I did put it on a lazy susan kind of thing so it rotates (you can see it in the pics). The cabinet locks and my boy is 11, so I'm not particularly concerned with childproofing.

What say you? It does have that feel of something that a creative divorce attorney might bring up as evidence of what an impossible bastard I must be to live with.

Seems like a good deal.
The only knife related things ever bring home from the hardware store are knives, but this is a cool display.
I'm not a Benchmade owner...ect, but as a display it's nice.

I only have a couple of Benchmades, and I agree it is better suited for a man cave. I just don't have one. I think I need the knife stand things. Knives don't look great in it just lying down. It should hold almost everything. My collection isn't that big.

Oh man you'd be teasing your 11 year old. All those beautiful knives set up on display, like those old liquor cabinets that tempted some us of in our younger years, haha. Really cool find, though!

You can always make it more sterile, remove the Benchmade Sign up top, use some mirror tape to cover the benchmade logo (or if you wanna go fancy you can do wood or carbon fiber with the hot glue. That way it's not branded and still a very neat knife display case. It would look better and would probably be more amicable for the wife.

This is good thinking. I do like being married.

With your screen name, I assume you have a Hobbit hole out back. Why not display it out there? :D That's a pretty sweet score.

I think you need to (re)watch A Christmas Story.
Does anyone remember what happened to the dad's "Major award" when he insisted that it be placed in the living room??

Excellent display case! If somebody sold those online, they’d have a booming business. On another note... If I was in your position, I’d give my 11y/o his own basic folder and some introduction to safe handling/use practices, elementary sharpening and maybe introductory woodcarving (?) or something else corny like that. That display case with some knives in it will have unimaginable magnetic power over any and all kids. Way too much temptation displayed way too conspicuously and IMO more than enough to successfully tempt the best of all kids. Before anything unfortunate happens, I’d get proactive and introduce my kid into knife handling and maybe even keep his knife in the display case with mine. Just a personal thought, but--better to overdo the proactive approach than to have to deal with a kid who cut himself playing with a knife (and worse yet his furious mother).

Only 40 bucks? Grand slam deal right there. Plus I think it looks good in your living room.
