i think a major chord with a minor root note would smooth things out... from what i can gather something is making a screeching noise ? can you tell if it is the machine or the blade making the noise ? i have had blades screech, its always with a used belt. never happened with a new one.
It seems strange to me that your wheels are away from the platen. I would think this might cause the "lines" but not sure about the screaching. Yes you may want to go this way for a convex blade but is this producing your problem?

that was nice!!!!My grinder used to play "Smoke on the Water", but I found removing the bucket from under the platen stopped it.
I'm by no means an expert and my grinder has never sung to me, but is it possible that one of the bearings in your platen wheels are going bad. I'd check them for any play without a belt on. Just my 2 cents. I used to work on copiers for a living many years ago and whenever customers were complaining about noise it was usually a bearing somewhere.

Jack when you said screeching you must have triggered something in my head. I have a KMG and have only noticed a screeching sound when I really lean into it while hogging and the belt on my pulleys slip.
Now my belt on the pulleys is really tight and I have a 3HP Baldor for the power plant so it takes a lot to do this. But you've probably had your KMG a lot longer than I have so maybe your drive belt is worn or your motor or KMG base has slipped a little over time and loosened up the belt. Who knows but I thought I would offer this up as a suggestion as I think it could cause some funky grinding if the belt slips then catches again several times in rapid succession.
Hope you figure it out

Always did like screamers.![]()
There was a short period of time where I experienced some screeching with my KMG flat platen. It was annoying... but not annoying enough that I ever took the time to definitively diagnosed the problem.
Based on memory, it seemed the issue occurred mostly with worn belts against a hot platen. I seem to remember some black build-up (skid marks) on the face of the platen that I ended up spending some time cleaning up. Not sure if I fell victim to some of that bad batch of gooey Blaze belts from a while back (I was working through some of them at the time)... but it seems like I also experienced the screech with some economy blue zirc belts from Pops. I do think that the build-up on the platen had something to do with it... but I haven't had this problem in recent history.

Hello Erin , how are my friend ?
I'm doing well Jack. Been a slow year in my shop, but I have a handful of projects on the bench. How about yourself?
Concerning the platen harmonics... do you see any vertical streaking on the platen face? When was the last time you trued up your platen? Is it still flat?... or is there any noticeable wear on the section of the platen where you do the most grinding?
