Harpy??

KrazieKurtis,

I am getting used to this too. Do you have any thoughts as to why the drying vents would have been added to the s/s model and not the one made with G-10?

Jeff.

Jeff,

Contact me if you have trouble finding a G-10 Harpy. I've got one or two around here that are teamed up with one of my neck sheaths.

Now that I think of it I have an "idea" about the vents. See the stainless steel could rust if not washed properly after being used in the water... so maybe the drying vents are there to help it...but then they coulda just made it smoothe as for an easy wipe down...I don't know though...or maybe since the G-10 is lighter they want it to feel more "solid"

You got me wondering.... :)

Mike,

I have emailed you using the address shown in your profile here...is this correct? It's not the same as the one shown on your website as a contact address.

Jeff.

Mike,

I decided I should send my email to the address on your website as well, in case you didn't get back to this board for awhile. Please pardon the duplication.

Jeff.

Mike,

Please drop me a line when you get a chance. I'd like to discuss the Harpy with you.

Jeff.

I also don't particularly care for the elongated "drying vent." My suggestion to Spyderco is to instead drill a number of holes (perhaps of varying sizes in a uniform pattern--like some balisongs or Tom Mayo's TNTs) into the stainless steel handle. It would allow for drying, a better grip, as well as a lighter knife--would look pretty nice too. If economically feasible, the holes should be radiused (I'm not certain if this is the correct terminology) to avoid sharp edges. This should be done on all of the ss handled Spydies (not just on the Harpy). Sal, go ahead and use this idea for free (no royalties to me required). ;)

Fellers,

I found the vents to be uncomfortable in my hand when grasping the knife. Finally, after trying for a week or so to get used to it, I decided to return this one to the shop from which I'd bought it. This is the first time I've done this with a Spydie, and since I hadn't used the knife much I was able to get a full credit towards a combo edge Chinook I've had my eye on...see my "Chinook - a real beauty" thread.

If the stainless Harpy had been made with smooth stainless handles like the other s/s knives, I'd have liked it a lot as I really appreciate the design otherwise. It's too bad that they don't make a version w/o the drying vents for those of us who never plan to use it anywhere near water. A big part of what I enjoy so much about the s/s Spydies is the smoothness of the handle material.

I'm still hoping to get ahold of a G-10 Harpy.

Cheers, Jeff/1911.

Jeff,
I posted in the KNIVES WANTED section asking for a G-10 Harpy and within several hours I had three email offers at different price ranges.
I took the $58.50 deal for a NIB and is now on the way.
HTH

;)

Does SMKW have any of these left? Last year they were selling G-10 Harpy's for $38+ tax or S&H. I bought a few while there on vaction, my cost with tax was only $42.00
Dont know if they still have any but y'all might want to check it out.

I appreciate your help in finding a G-10 Harpy. I am currently discussing the purchase of the G-10 Harpy of another forumite, so I'm OK.

I did try John F Jensen originally, and John responded immediately being most helpful. Unfortunately, they don't ship to Canada, and that's where I live.

Cheers, Jeff.
