Sorry it took so long to post this. I had to deal with frozen brake calipers and a seized air conditioner compressor on my Jeep and major gastro-intestinal surgery on my dog.

Took a hike through Harriman State Park in the vicinity of Pine Swamp and Times Square the Saturday before Father's Day with my wife and elder daughter. High 80's temps and greenhouse-like humidity kept the hike just a hair under 4 miles. Can't wait to go back. I want to thank Theonew for all of the info that he provided.

The moutain laurel was blooming everywhere (never been in these parts in June)

The wildlife was everywhere: chipmunks, bullfrogs, toads, deer...

Some interesting erratics...

The girls in front of Pine Swamp Mine (some critter was making quite a ruckus in there, so we didn't get to go in)

View from Pine Swamp Mountain of some of the lakes along Seven Lakes Drive (storm was moving in). Check out that mountain laurel!

Excellent pics! I haven't been up there in awhile. I use to fish Lake Sebago all the time.

Real pretty area!

By the way I hope your dog is OK.

Thanks Tony, she's doing alright. the genius managed to pull apart her bed and eat some of the fleece-like material it's covered with. She's doing pretty well now. I can't wait until next Monday when the vet takes the staples out and I can take the lampshade off her head.

This was my first trip to Harriman - I plan to make it first of many. Of course, my wife complained that it wasn't as dramatic as our hike along the Catskill Escarpment - everyone's a critic.

awesome trip man. Looks like great terrain! Sorry bout the pooch, they do strange things sometimes huh?

Looks like you guys had a great time! Hope your pup heals quick.

Nice pics  Glad I could be of assistance, tell your wife though that that was just the initiation hike, more drama to follow :D The only thing absent from Harriman is tall mountains :grumpy: but there are plenty of gorgeous views nevertheless.

Oddly enough I just recently had both the air conditioner and a frozen caliper repaired on my car, hope that doesn't have something to do with visiting Harriman ;) Sorry to hear about your pooch but glad he pulled through.

On account of your recommendation, I was supposed to go to Sam's Point Preserve this weekend, but given the unstable weather I ended up in Harriman since I'm familiar with the area and know plenty of good spots for emergency shelter. I can't wait to check it out though soon.

At least your wife is into it, I am slowly getting my wife to come out w/ me:thumbup:

I'm working on it. She's a life-long Nassau County resident. It's still very tough to get her out, but once she's out, she enjoys it. The thing I'm trying to show her now is that a hike doesn't have to be an event, and can therefore be done whenever. I've taken to calling them "walks", which helps a little.

Theo - yeah the weather was pretty annoying this weekend - couldn't plan anything. Looks like this upcoming weekend is more of the same. Hopefully you get up there soon! BTW - everything on my car started crapping out as I was entering Harriman, so it could be some bad mojo! What kind of car do you have - mine's a 2003 Jeep Liberty

Mtn Mike: they look climbable, but I'm not a mountain climbing guy. The area where Theo's going - the Shawangunks (a little bit further up the Hudson from Harriman) - are supposed to be the best climbing on the east coast.

Thanks everyone that's wishing well for my dog!

Dang. Those look GREAT! I always wonder how free standing enormous boulders get to where they are.
