We haven't had a Hartsfield post in a while, they're always fun!

I picked this Mountain Man Hunter up from a friend and it's in excellent condition, I think he told me it was made in 1985. The sheaths are interesting but certainly old skool. A trip to the Long shop Would be a big improvement, thinking back to one he did for Joe P.

The blade is 1/4" A2, 5" with a rather short 4" of handle. This is double ground and very well finished as Phill is known for. :) I like the copper thong hole, a little different than the exposed tang in his more recent photo.

A Hartsfield Thread without you would be like earth with no oxygen! Okay, crappy analogy, but you get the point.

I only drool over the japanese style blades he makes. Wood just doesn't do it for me :D

Phill was at the Santa Barbara show...your *buddy* TJL (lol) was there and talked to Phill even. On Friday anyway. Maybe he wasn't there on Sat or Sunday.

I didn't see him, and looked.

Who is TJL?

I saw him at the show. I was standing next to his table and overheard a conversation between him and a potential customer. I could be wrong but it sounded to me like Mr. Hartsfield was doing his best to discourage the guy from buying a knife. The potential customer was not sure why he wanted the knife, but he did want one, and Hartsfield almost browbeat him about it. "What are you going to use it for, why do you want it, etc." and the customer was obviously uncomfortable. So was I and I left.

I have known Phill for 20 years and I am sure he was just trying to determine what the knife would be used for so he could direct him in the right direction in his choice of model and style. For him a blade is a tool and should fit the application for which task you require it for. I can not see him brow beating anyone for that matter. When overhearing a conversation from a third party standpoint you sometimes do not hear the whole conversation.
