Harvey Dean Kennesaw Bowie

Wow, that's a beauty - and fossil walrus ivory, don't get much better, my favorite.

Only two things to add here.

1. Even if you are not a maker, buy Harvey Dean's D-Guard DVD. It is a chance to see all the simple genius of the design, and to see a few very nice D-guard bowies from a variety of angles.

2. One thing pictures can't tell you is how darn light and fast Harvey Dean's big bowies feel. I remember when I was still living back in the States I had to pull Nick over to Harvey's table in Reno (2004, maybe?) to handle this huge SW bowie. It was just incredible enough that I needed a credible witness to how perfectly light and balanced it was.

Amazingly nice piece, so much to admire, but just check out the fit of the guard to the blade ..... it looks flawless, as if it was hewn from a single billet.

Nice bike...who made it. It has a bit of a Eddy Trotta look and feel about it.

I have both Harvey's D guard bowie video, and his flat grinding video. I'm a new guy at making knives, and it's helped me out a whole lot to see the process, and the detail that goes into these knives. Even though I'll probably not be trying to tackle the D guard bowie just yet, the videos have given me alot of confidence, and are helping me to aim higher in my own workmanship.

Wow- that is truly special! What a beautiful combination of rustic and elegant. Thanks for sharing!
