Has any of us used this lady's belts ? ? ?

Roger,
I have been buying belts from Barb for quite a while.Even though I only use my Wilton for bone and ivory I quit using the cheap belts.I have been using the blue Norzon belts and find they are worth the little extra they cost. She is great to deal with and can get you what you want at the best price I have found. I buy hook&loop discs from her at the best price I have found.I made a die for cutting 2" discs out of a sharpend hole saw that I use on my drill press.I get the foam backed holder from Industrial Abrasives. It works hood for sanding handles.
Roger I am sending out ivory and tooth in the morning.I will be halibut fishing in Valdez until next week.It sounds like the red salmon are running good in Chitina. We might stop of there and dip a few.
Chuck

Chuck,

Why must you punish me with those fishing ventures?? You know darn well how it hurts I'm not there on the water too! ! ! That's okay. I'll get provoked and fly into the bush country this summer for some walleye; every night for dinner. So there!

Hey, you got mail.

I'm glad your sending the tooth. And, I am anxious to see the blue bark. Don't spoil me too much; even though it is the end of my annual birthday week. That's right - WEEK.

I'll be calling you in a couple weeks for advise on care and finish of the mammoth tooth. I am humbled by your expectations and trust of such an inexperienced knife maker to be.

Roger

blue mammoth tooth...:( :(

*whimper...whimper*

I absolutely love that stuff.

Roger - you lucky dog!

I just bought some A/O 400 grit belts from Discount Abrasives on eBay.

Hope my comment on Barb didn't come across negative - wasn't intended that way. Just that I was going through 2 belts each grit per knife. I'm sure much of that was me...:D

I still plan on using cheapo A/O belts for shaping handles. I (hopefully) will just stop keeping the dull ones.

Dan

The blue zirc belts I have ordered have already outlasted the A/O 8 to 1 (and counting). They were only 2x the cost but still cut well.

I just got some 3M 15mm and 30mm belts at Blade. We'll see how they do.

I get my blue from http://www.supergrit.com up to 120 grit, and my A/O (180 and 220) from either Supergrit or Lee Valley. I'm sure there are better places to get either, but I make regular orders from Lee Valley and Supergrit is in PA, so shipping is fast.

Thanks big guy. I've got enough 80 and 120 grit left to do a couple more knives. I'll see about some blue soon. Thanks for the tip. I want to try some Norton too sometime.

Roger

I find that the cheap belts are fine for profiling handle material, and then for profiling blades after they become to dull for handles. But I always use 3M belts for everything else.
