Has Anybody Actually Used ESEE's Warranty?

Full disclosure: I love ESEE and use my Izzie/4 quite often.

That being said...

Has anybody actually used their warranty? I hear about their "no questions asked" warranty all the time, yet very rarely do I hear of anyone actually using it. Is it really all it's cracked up to be? I see a lot of feedback about Spyderco CS, Kershaw CS, etc. But not much on ESEE, at least not anything recently.

For example, have you or anyone you know purposely put their ESEE through some serious abuse, broken it, and got a no questions asked replacement? I in no way plan to do this, since I think it's a bit dishonest as a customer, and my ESEEs are in great shape, but I'm just curious if what seems to be the best warranty in the business is everything it says it is.

I don't think many people break 3/16'' thick knives without purposefully doing it. I doubt I'll ever use their warranty but it's nice to know it's there.

Someone posted a thread back when Jeff and Mike were here, about an Izula that was beat to death. The guy sent it in (3-4 pieces), and it was replaced. He took his lumps on the forum for being less than intelligent and abusive to their warranty. Sad when stuff like that happens.

I used the warranty. No I did not abuse my knife, I was using an ESEE 3 and was batoning a small piece of wood (some may consider batoning abuse however). The edge of the knife actually broke off in flakes. Its not a very good description but I don't know how to describe it better. The edge had several half inch deep chunks missing from it. I asked if they covered batoning (using wood to strike the knife) and they said yes. The only info they asked was how it happened, and where I bought it. I received a new knife in about 8 days. Never had a problem with the new knife, and they have a customer for life.

I had an ESEE Lite Machete with a bit of handle rattle. Jeff inspected it himself over at Ethan Becker's place, and I had a new one in the mail within a week. Solid warranty.

Good to know, guys... I don't plan on abusing them, but it's good to know that their warranty is what it says it is
