has anybody ever worked 9 to 5?

All Hours, All Shifts- BTDT. Now 8:30 AM-5:00 PM. My turn for a 'normal' life.
And then there are the bar shifts...

Started police work in 1968 after a stint in the military. Essentially, never.
I've done more strange shifts than I can shake a stick at.

Once I was the "relief sergeant". That was fun; three days on afternoons (3-11) followed by two days on midnights (11-7) with two days off. I usually didn't know what day of the week it was.

I worked one similar at an industrial plant. 2 night shifts, 2 day shifts, and 2 evening shifts and 48 hours off. Along with not knowing if I was coming or going, I really started gaining weight and losing energy. Didn't want to do anything but play couch potato after work.

That's like my Air Force schedule: 4 evenings, 4 midnights, 4 days, 4 off. They said it wasn't as bad for young, single guys, but it busted up marriages.

One of the advantages of it was being stationed in a country like Germany, you could end up downtown days sometimes, nights sometimes, and really get to travel a bit on the 4 day mini-vacation/long weekend.

I really started gaining weight and losing energy.

I didn't lose energy, but in 4 years, I went from 175 to about 240 lb. When you don't know if you're coming or going, every meal is dinnertime.

One day, I woke up, looked at my watch, and thinking it was a quarter to three and I needed to be at the bus stop at 3:00 PM, I moved fast! and got to the bus stop to realize it had really been 9:15 AM. )&*$%@#

Never worked a job that had "bankers hours".

I've always worked "3p.m....ish to when ever I shut the place down and got it clean. Any time between 10:00 p.m. and 2a.m.
25 years of that so far.

I'm the sales manager for my family's swimming pool business. In the spring and summer (when the time changes from Daylight Saving Time) I work 7 days a week, about 70 hours a week for about 6 months (until DST starts back up). No lunch, just whenever I can grab a bite to eat. I have no vacation time or sick days built in, but I generally take a week or so off to recharge mid summer. During the winter (pure bliss...and boredom):D I come in at 9 and go home at 5 with the weekends off. I'm usually here by myself, so I don't close for lunch. However, it's honestly an 8 hour day of goofing off online, reading books, and watching DVDs, but I have to be open. I might make a $30k plus sale....more often than not, I'm just sitting on my thumbs until it gets warm again. Great for the holidays since my in-laws live out of town.

Not always an easy job (in the summer), not always a fun job. However there are much, much worse ways to make a living.

I have not worked " 9 to 5" in a while now , would love to return to it.
Now I work my rear off and recieve a slavery.

oops , I meant salary.....

Not me, I work 7-3:30 with a 1/2 hour unpaid lunch. It sucks getting up that early but it doesnt seem like you worked "all day".When I was a mechanic it was 8-5 1 hour lunch most of the time i worked through lunch to make more money( if there was work)

One of the best schedules in the post office was 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM in the summer. By the time you got home, there was still a lot of daylight left! :)

last job was 0600-1400, which usually ment going to bed at 0130, up at 0430 and opening the gate for the lazy bastids at 0530 so they could clock in. 2.5yrs of that monday to friday :jerkit:

This job is 1545-0000(or 0200), sunday to thursday, get up at 8-9am friday and do my shopping while the stores are dead quiet  :p

My usual week is my 46-48hrs of paid work, running around friday, and doing computer work for ppl saturday  , just to get up at noon on sunday and start all over again.

Haven't had a break in 6 months, at least we shut down the 21st and don't go back till the 2nd. Forced holiday but at least it's a holiday

I hear ya. I'm on 3:30PM-2AM, 4 nites a week and it blows. Extra day off, my ass... all ya do is sleep. And during the week there's naught to do except tinker with knives and guitars and irritate people here... :D

I'd strongly consider less pay to get a day shift job, I'm that sick of nights.

I have never had a job with fixed hours, and rarely have I ever had a job that was only 40 hrs/week. Closest I came was managing a tire store(to the regular hours that is) 5:30am-5:30pm monday thru friday and every other saturday with the occassional extra hours for inventory, snow rush, and the like. Lunch was eaten as time permitted usually standing in the shop.
