Has anybody noticed.... post count isn't increasing....

After mine went down to 0, I heard they installed a "meaningful post counter" :D.

It has something to do with the posts in community and whine and cheese. I think those are the ones that were deleted.

btw, Thanks for popping by my place in cyberspace and signing my guestmap, Harvey. That was nice.

Mine have dropped a few times over the years. It happened a few weeks ago. I think Spark also deletes stuff from the classifieds after a period of time, though I am not sure. I am gonna split the thread so it appears here and at Technical Services.
I have started looking at the post number issue a little differently. The ones I find that are most impressive are the guys that have been around for ages and have a relatively low post count. It tells me that they listen more than they speak. When they do say something, I figure they have something important impart. The head of a human being has a major fault. When the lips are movin' the ears stop workin' :D :D

I wasn't gonna say that DED, but now that you mention it, I feel the same way, there are some who climb to 1000, 2000 posts in a matter of months. Do they have something valuble to add, or do 1 and 2 word replies, constitute a legitiment reply?

Hey, sometimes we all answer with a short reply, or a emoticon, but when post counts increase because you've replied to 20 posts a day with comments like "Ditto", or yeah, and these make up the bulk of the inflated counts than I put very little value to the poter and their comments.

I came here 2 years ago, and I respect the opinions of most of the posters, but I'm under the impression that some people post, or reply just to see their counts go up, that's High School crap, and has no place on this forum.

There is one other place I go where none of this happens, it's a small community, and the "children", have not found it yet. I'll always come back here, because I like the people, hell I even went gold to support this forum in hopes that it stays, but sometimes reading replies to some posts is like going through my junk email, it takes up valuble space, yet it has no relevant, or useful content.

There now that I'm done ranting, here's some knife content, I saw one of the most useful tool/knife combos I've seen in a longtime, it was buy Stanley I believe, it was a putty scraper with a sheepsfoot knife blade built into the handle.

Personally, the post count doesn't matter to me at all. I believe I was one of the first 12 members of the forums way back in 1998. I've posted probably somewhere close to 700 times. Most times I enjoy what others have posted and don't feel the need to add my $0.02... after all, 30 posts saying exactly the same thing can be kinda borning. :D

I love the forums. Great place to hang out and learn. And knife people are truly a cut above... even with my poor pun! ;)

Y'all keep posting and don't worry about the counts. Quality, not quantity, is what's important.

Happy Holidays!

Post counts don't mean anything to me. Longevity and wisdom mean more.

Anyhow, you post count doesn't increase per post in a thread. Each thread is generated dynamicly, so your post count will always show the latest number, even if you post twice in a row.

As for declining counts, I periodicly prune the for sale and community forums. They don't really build the core of BladeForums, so they are in my mind, fair game.

I was thinking about not posting as a strike against the post count not increasing. But that would be counter-productive, wouldn't it?

I might have to think that one out more thoroughly ....:)

i dunno about the rest of you guys, but i consider the post count my personal barometer of knife satisfaction. i've been dormant (post-wise) for a year or so.. but i just ordered an l-udt.. i'm thinking it may rekindle my desire to post. the count just puts the abstract into nice tidy quantifiable terms.

also, ditto :footinmou <--this guy looks like he's eating pie
