Has Anyone Done a Cutting Test of Their Kizer Blade S35V?

A performance comparison of S35VN is a valid concept and it would evaluate their heat treat, edge geometry and potentially sharpening process/edge temperature control during said process. However, people on the webs stating that the titanium isn't as good are full of ****. There are no performance characteristics of titanium and the only difference between 6AL4V and TC4 is the purity of the Ti when used in medical implants. Gotta love the interwebs...

It's not unheard of for titanium to be sold as TC4 and not be TC4, few companies will send off titanium to be analyzed by a laboratory.

What REVDH said doesn't make sense. It's just the heat treatment with the S35VN, and the titanium alloy or HT (if it is even HT).

Actually Austonh making a titanium alloy purer in titanium means you are decreasing the content of the alloying metals, there would be a performance characteristic change.

TC4 has the same alloying content as 6AL4V. Also, Kizer specifically says they use 6AL4V and we have no reason to be skeptical of their claims. When everyone went on the witch hunt against Kizer at first about using S35VN, they were proven wrong.

In the case that it is TC4, here's an article from an engineering journal about the fatigue life of TC4 that I'm sure will alleviate your concerns: http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/ffe.12240/abstract

Hi, guys:

I wanted to chime in here real quick. Apologies for the late reply, being on the road does take a toll these days.

Luis: I apologize for your experience. If you still have the knife, please send me a PM regarding it.

As for the US based warranty center, we focus mostly on exchanges but we also mail out small parts. I have sent out replacement for lost parts but I've also seen that when new models come out sometimes it takes a little time to get everything set up here so the factory would be the best alternative since they already have all the parts in ready supply. That's why for some models you will see different shipping solutions at different times.

Feel free to send me questions through the Bladeforums system, and I will make an effort to participate more as schedule clears.

Thank you.

Kizer.

good to see a kizer mod is replying to issues like this.

I have a ki5401a2, of which one of the handle screws I stripped. Emailed Kizer and a rep named joyce asked for some picture of the knife. I did. I havent heard anything back. that was a few month ago.

Also, this knife never truly flips (see my other post in this subforum, ). Is it sth that kizer can take care? I wont be upset if you say no, though (many people mentioned even Hinderer knives have this issue).

Hi, Sharp Edge:

For the stripped screw, please send me an email through the bladeforums system. I will also speak to our reps about responding in a timely manner.

For the flipping issue, could you, in the email sent above, describe the "never flips" issue in more detail? We have found that for the knives which feature the classic flipper system with a conventional pivot, regular cleaning and oil with a good lubricant will in most cases help the issue improve or correct it altogether.

I look forward to hearing more from you in email.

Thank you.

Kizer
