Has anyone ever returned a Busse?

Yes, I've returned a Busse knife. I don't know what the official policy is, but I called up Jerry Busse and explained why I'd like to return the knife. We made arrangements, I shipped the knife back, and he refunded me the money.

The second Busse I ever bought, in 1995, was a SHBA in
A2. It was rough. The fit and finish did not even come close to that of my first, a BBSHII bought earlier in 94.

I called about it, and had my first conversation with Jerry Busse. When he answered the phone and I gave my name, he immediately said, "Oh, yeah. Down in Alabama."
I thought "he has an impressive memory or very few customers." He asked me to send it back. When he received it, he called again and offered me my money back.
As an alternative, he said he would replace it with a very nice one with a few "extras." Turns out it had an experimental ceramic coating. I still have that one.

And/or does Busse and BCS have a return policy?

Before returning it for a refund, you could post it for sale at your price plus shipping and give some hog a shot at it.
Depending upon what it is, you might even make a little profit.

Back on 9.3.2002 I got an extra Public Defender, emailed Jerry and sent it back the next day. Jerry had somehow gotten into the shipping room, dropped the PD I had ordered into the box with my returning BK Polar Drop, AS, PH & B9, and failed to mention it to anyone.
He told me he owed me a beer for being so honest.....in fact, he said he was going to drink it right then! :D That guy is such a giver! :)

That's good to know. Always thought the custom knife industry was like the firearms industry where once you bought it, there was no returning the item.

Dewd...

I know what piece of INFI you own. If you don't like, contact me. :D

:p

I returned at least ten that I was not happy with the sharpness of Fresh from the Factory.

Jerry then Taught me to wipe the blade with WD-40 to remove any possible residual grit from buffing wheel, and he sent to me a Busse Strop Factory loaded with the correct grit and told me how to use it.

By the way, he resharpened all of the knives that I returned for that purpose, he just added the Strop, the rest took place over the phone.

When I was a dealer I had a few Busse knives returned to me because of the finish, on one of them(an Assault Shaker) you could see that the coating had a line in it, in the rear hole where the knife had been supported during coating, I returned the customers money and the money he spent returning the knife.

I never even thought to look to see if the coating was perfect inside the talon holes before that, come to think of it, I have not looked since either.

Jerry is very big on making the Customer happy.

Well, I too have returned a couple because of minor cosmetic issues. My MOASH's double cut had a thin line of very fine pitting down one side near the spine, as though the double cut finish had simply missed one defined area. And a Fire Warden had a strangely warped rivet and a tiny bit of G-10 chipping around it.

Both of the above-mentioned knives were perfect when I got them back. Moreover, both issues were addressed quickly and far beyond my expectations.

Busse Knives took care of the problems without so much as a blink. And both instances only solidified my belief in the customer service mission of Busse.

Bingo.

I sent a knife back that I just didn't order; it should have gone to another HOG, I think it was Ducci's knife. Which is why he OWES me a BBSHSH;)

Of course all things INFI lead to Ducci. In fact I'm begining to think that if Ducci didn't own the knife at one time it isn't a Busse.

Well unless it is a SHBM then Cobalt needs to have owned it.:p

I sent one back that got slightly damaged after a very rough workout. Replaced with a new one, no questions asked. Customer service beyond expectations in todays world.

I'm seeing a trend here. I also sent back a knife that I didn't order.

Not for a refund, but I sent one back once to be re-scaled. It arrived with pretty substantial gaps between the scales and tang. IIRC, this actually went via Scott, not directly to the shop. Anyway, they fixed it right up.

Someone needs to keep Jerry out of the shipping room, unless he's sober. I wonder how many dishonest folks just kept their mouth shut.
