Has Anyone Every had a Knife "Removed" from a checked-in suitcase?

Had 3-400 flights in more than 20 years. Most of the time I had one ore more knives in hold luggage. Only once a Leatherman Wave disappeared, at Guadelajara or Mexico CIty airport. Also a couple of pressure switches disappeared from lost luggage that was delivered later on a Limoges-Paris-Amsterdam connection but I must admit those might have looked quite suspicious especially in unaccompanied luggage.

I'll be taking a commercial flight from Florida to New York state in a couple of weeks. Although I am packing lightly enough to use a carry-on, I would really like to bring a knife along with me, so much so that I am even willing to check my small bag. I don't want to bring anything extraordinary, just a nice small, pocketable slip joint. I'll be spending lots of time at a racetrack and outdoors in general, so having a knife would be handy for things like cutting fruit, opening pistachio shells, etc. Has anyone here ever had a knife removed (stolen) from a checked bag. I'd rather bring a nicer-type knife, but will resort to bringing a beater if theft (confiscation) at the airport might be an issue.
Fly do destination. Google Hardware store. Go to hardware store, buy Gerber Utility blade, Ball ping hammer. On way to airport leave hammer and utility knife in glove box for Hertz employees to find. Bonus points if you cover them in fake blood.

So a Federale is enjoying his new Leatherman wave. Saying to himself "Gracias Gringo".

NYC allows blades under 4" and no autos. Other than that, you're good to go!
No assisted-open either...cop arrested some dude in the subway when he spotted a knife riding high in his pocket back in 2018. The DA charged him for carrying an automatic knife...he appealed all the way to the NYS Supreme Court because it was assisted-open and he lost. Six out of the seven judges said it was no different than a switchblade.

NYC is a different animal and so are many of their officers. I hate going into the city. I would have never made an arrest for any blade, unless, it was used in commission of a crime. I retired from Yonkers.

I just flew to Brazil last week with a Spyderco Pacific, ESEE 3 and 2 ESEE Izula 2s. No problems. Of course I use tsa locks on luggage.

I have not flown in forty years, but still I have to ask: wouldn't checked bags be locked?

Are they just breaking into the bags to inspect them?
About 20 for me. I just don't like the idea of them being able to treat me like an inmate. I know is it necessary, but I just don't intend to participate.
