In February asked him if he could make a knife for me and was told 2 weeks and 100% deposit. In April I asked what was up and was told he was moving to a new shop and would finish my knife on Saturday. Its been 4 months now since I paid him and my most recent email asking for an update/timeline or a refund has gone unanswered. Am I being unreasonable here?

It looks like his last post was on 6/12/12. I hope you can contact him and get the knife you ordered.

100% deposit? I presume that means pay in full before knife is even made?

100% deposit raises alarms right away.
I've never paid a cent to any custom maker before a knife was completed.:thumbdn:

"Unreasonable" is the last thing you are being here. Indeed, paying any deposit up front is a roadmap to trouble, as you have already experienced insofar as you have waited months on what was supposed to be a two-week turn-around.

How did you pay him?

You are welcome to do as you please, but since you are having trouble contacting him, it is possible that he has not even started work on your knife. And since that is the case, I would suggest that you change your course of action from "patiently waiting for a quality knife" to "an immediate and full refund." If you stay your course, I suspect that there will be a lot more disappointment and frustration for you as well as excuses and inaction by him. However, if you demand a refund, then him not providing it to you immediately constitutes theft and he may be quicker to act when and if you choose to get the law involved.

Sorry to hear about this, but there are many quality makers who will make a knife for you without any deposit at all.

I paid via paypal, and according to them, "Unfortunately, this type of transaction is not eligible for PayPal dispute resolution".

Paypal is really getting out of hand. Their big selling point is buyer protection. I'd avoid Oleg and paypal.

on_the_edge +1 all the way.

How were the Funds paid via PayPal? Credit Card or Balance etc? If by Credit Card a Charge Back might be possible?

I ran across his listings on the bay and he had a bunch of knives for sale.Maybe he would let you pick one.I'll never take a dime upfront unless its some kind of very special circumstance, nor would i suggest anyone pay more than a very small deposit if at all.Too many things go wrong as well documented on these pages.

It was via credit card. Had I been aware of the 45 day limit on making a dispute I would acted sooner, but this is the first time I've ever had an issue with a seller of any kind.

I wish I could remember who it was that said this but it seems applicable in this case - the hardest knife for a maker to make is the one that's already paid for. I hope you can get some kind of resolution.

He allways posts up a lot of knives but come to think off it he has not been posting anything for a while. Believe me I know where you are coming from when it comes to being burned by someone. But in this case maybe something happened to him ? Because it seems odd that a guy who always had a bunch of blades for sale is suddenly gone.

All the best

Given that your situation goes all the way back to February, it seems hard to believe that his sudden disappearance is due to something beyond his control. If that were the case, I would have expected an ongoing dialogue between you two in March, April, May, and half of June. It does not sound like any of that happened.

I received my knife from him (bought off the forum, not a custom order) just a few days ago. Hope this is resolved satisfactorily!

Hi guys. The first thing I want to apologize that did not fulfill orders on time. I am ready to return the money on this Friday. Let me know by email. In the last two months i have been a big problems. I do not take orders because now 95% of the time I do not making knives. Now I will only sell those knives that are made.

Always seemed like you were a great maker, Oleg. Hope all works out well for you. Don't take full deposits up front. :)
