Has anyone here ever dulled a sak saw?

I have been watching a few of Ron Hood's videos, and he really knows how to make use of a SAK saw in lots of different ways. That got me wondering how long it would be before the saw got dull. Has anyone here ever used their SAK saw so much that it got dull? If so, what did you use to sharpen it?

Thanks much

They last a long, long time. If you wear out the saw teeth, then you'll probably have worn out the entire pin-joint where the tools hinge.

This doesn't apply to abuse, of course.

Ya, they make some amazing saws, Wenger and Victorinox. Great tools for the price ;)

I have one of the bigger locking SAKs that I picked up used about twelve years ago and it still sawing strong.

I am yet to wear out the saw on my Vic Camper, cutting wood of course. I also have 3 of the Bundeswehr surplus Mauser patter knives. 2 are Vics, 1 is an Aitor. They all lived hard lives before the Germans surplussed them, and the saws are all good.

I have a Vic Ranger and I have used it for years, not only making fire boards and trap parts, etc., but also at work where I cut plastic door panels (for frigs). I also use the hack saw on oven control shafts to break them easier. Both saws are excellent. The rest of my knife is wearing out but the saws are still going strong.

Vic should manufacture a full size folding saw, maybe 8 inches or so.
Sometimes I have found the saws too short for what I want to use them for.
They could have a filet knife on the opposite side.

Nope! The vic saw is the Swiss equivalent of the energizer bunny, it just keeps going and going and going.:D

And if you do manage to dull one, you can sharpen it by laying it flat to the stone.
It's only the out side of the saw teeth that is used.

Hehehe-- I hope I never have to use it that much. I figure for the cost of the knife ($25) I could buy a new Trekker every year and not feel bad-- although I don't approve of blindly abusing tools.

I was eyeballing a Stanley folding saw that takes reciprocating saw blades. I think that is a great way to go-- one for metal, one for wood, etc. If you could find a straight edge cutting blade to fit, you would have a kind of poor man's tade-a-blade. It would be nice to find one as sharp and agressive as a Vic saw is. I need to get to the hardware store and take a look. Add a cabide grit blade and you would have saw for your big survival kit that could cut just about anything.

Somewhere in my toybox I have a little Stanley folding saw that is like the Vic saw blade all by itself in a handle-- a simple jack knife rig. I looked at their catalog and I guess it isn't made any longer. It was about 3oz as I remember.

Yup...mine got dull enough for me to notice that it wasn't cutting like it used to.

I have carried it nearly every day since buying it and the saw has seen a reasonable amount of work, all wood.

I sharpened the flats some and that brought it back a bit, but it would probably stand a bit more work.

Mind you, it did take 20 years to need the attention!! :D

My big Swiss Champ is 16 years old and the saw is still going strong after alot of cutting.

Little suckers are amazing!

I think that victorinox are under rated. You get alot of good for the $$.I've used the saws on mine quite a bit, they loose that stickey sharpness after a while. But keep on cuttin!

Timely topic, I was just wondering the same thing on my Vic GAK. It is one mean little saw.
