has anyone modded a scotch dispenser?

Has anyone cannibalized a Scotch Dispenser and had the blade made into a folder yet? It seems like a prime candidate for that type of mod.

Do you mean something like this? I started to make one, you can see the kydex handle mock up, it was going to be a flipper model. It was going to be kind of a birds beak straight handle (surprizing, right?). At this point, I realized I couldn't make it with a frame lock because of how close the pivot hole is to the ring cutout, the detent would fall off the blade and then back on again. I might make a friction folder or try and figure out another way to make a lock. I was thinking one of the SAR4s might work though............................

Well, at this point, your imagination. The pictures show it in the very early stages of the fabrication, it was going to have a stop pin, but once I figured out it couldn't have a frame lock, I stopped working on it for now.

if my folder idea works your knife would be perfect for it. its not a framelock design and just about any fixed blade could be used in it. could you imagine an ak folder ?

Sounds interesting, are you patenting a design? If not, are you going to share/describe/show it?

i have to see how well it works before i share much info about it. i'm going to make one first to see how it holds up. if the lock works the way i'm hoping it will, it will be a solid and strong lock. the first one wont be small either measuring about 4" long with a 1/4" thick ti frame. the blade will be 3/16 1075 with a full convex blade and not a chisel grind but that could change.

the scotch dispenser mod is close to being finished. the owner stripped off the wrinkle finish and should have it back to me next weekend if not sooner to be finished up. its going to be sweet when its done.

Oh sure, some of these mods look pretty cool, but you have to admit that they don't look much like scotch tape dispensers now do they???. . . .And really, when you think about it, what's the point of a small knife that doesn't look like a tape dispenser???. . . .Think about it. . . drink about it. . . Uh huh, who's hurtin' now???. . . . Yeah! Not me! . . . My knife still looks like a scotch tape dispenser and their's don't!

Wow, sure glad I'm me right now and not one of those poor bastids with their chopped up, little, compact, cool lookin' knives!!!

Well, I gotta go and find my stapler . . . I've got a bunch of documents that need to be stapled together. . . . Wait a minute!!!. . . "Stapler"???. . . Hey, staplers can be opened up and folded shut, right???. . . YOWZA!!!. . . Holy oinkin' thunder!!!. . . Boy howdy, I just had a great knife design idea!!!

as far as i know i'm not cutting this one down any. i might convex the edge if he wants it done but it cuts just fine the way it is.
