Has anyone tried the G-10 scales sold by The Knife Connection on their ESEE knives?

I have never tried oiling the micarta. I might try that.

Your problem with micarta is that it gets oily from your skin, how would oiling it help anything?

If you want to try to improve your existing scales, try polishing (with high grit sandpaper) or waxing them.

It's not the performance of the micarta, it's the looks. That and the scales from TKC add some contour.

I do take mine off and clean them with Dawn each time I use them hard. It is just a pain in the rear.

If oiling micarta is anything like oiling wood the you should try that first. My birch scales on the esee4 accumulate dirt, but it comes off easily with a bit of oil on denim and elbow grease.

I have the Esee black G10's for the Izula. I like the full coverage over ring better than the original partials. But still favor Micarta as a material in general. I've never had any problem cleaning up Micarta on any of my knives.

I have never owned a knife with G-10. I was hoping that would solve the issue. Well NUTS! :(

The TKC G-10 scales are WAY smoother than the ESEE Micarta. I have them on one of my Izula 2s and I love them.

If it wasn't for the cost of these tiny slabs from TKC, I would have them on my other 3 Izulas, as well. I may outfit another one with them; they feel great.

Another option is to sand and polish your OEM Micarta scales.

I fitted my Laser Strike with The Knife Connection G10 scales(http://www.theknifeconnection.net/esee-laser-strike-scales/). The difference is slight but significant. A coworker who was less than enthused with the feel of the knife with micarta scales began to curse me as now he has another ESEE on his wish list. After working with them for just a couple of weekends, I haven't really found much difference with performance or hand fatigue. They do feel awesome in the hand compared to the micarta. I wish there was a bow divot on both sides as that would be a distinct advantage to lefties. I have not fitted the ESEE arrowheads to the interior compartments, that is the next purchase. The original Kydex sheath still retains the knife well and secure without modification, but with the new scales being slightly wider due to the contours, the opening is kept under some flex. I worry a little about the Kydex deforming over time, but not about the knife falling out and being lost. I will add one more word of caution, the included screws were attracted to my magnetic keeper where the original hardware was not, so I am keeping my eye out for rust on the screws. Would hate to need the fire starter and tinder in the center compartment of the handle only to find it being held captive by stubborn rusted threads.

I've got them on my Izula 1 and 2 and IMHO they're a big improvement in ergos. I'm not crazy about how they look on the 4.
