Has anyone played with there RAT fire steel enough to use it up yet? I ask cause I'm curious. Thanks,

Heber

I use the reamer on a SAK Soldier model as a striker and am about a third of the way through after a lot of use. If you were using it consistently I still reckon you would get a few months out of the thing...which would be a very unusual amount of use for a survival tool.

I used mine exclusive on my past camping trip just due to the rain and after the rain passed there was slight drizzle all day following,I used the small blade on my SAK hiker and very minimal wear shown. though it was designed as a last ditch Survival tool, not made for everyday use like a standard firesteel and if you prep your tinder correctly 2 strike and I had fire every time in the rain . I own a pair and upon the release of the new version I will snag another pair.

I have the rods but haven't put them up on the web site yet. Will do that soon.

I had a guy ask me how many strikes he could get on one before it was used up. He wanted to know before he would order. I had to say i don't know. He didn't order.:)

I would have told him 69,363. Tell him we had monkeys perform the test and keep count. Jesus, it's amazing at some of the questions we get. "Does your knife come with a sharpen edge or do we have to sharpen it?" "Is the edge designed to cut?" "What's the difference between a machete and a knife?"

Better yet you could have told him only one strike and then the unit self-destructs to remove any known evidence of the device being used. It's a top secret 007 device designed only for last-ditch life saving purposes.

:D

"Is the edge designed to cut?" Answer: "No. It's a highly tuned matter separator. If it was designed to cut, we'd list it as a feature."

I doubt you'll use the whole steel up in a night if that's what he's worried about. The number of strikes is dependable upon a lot of factors, not all of them control able.

We actually had a New York lawyer asked us yesterday if we knew the difference between a machete and a knife. No shit.

Ask him if he knows the difference between an injunction and an appeal.

I hate lawyers almost as much as I hate zombies and ninjas.:D
