Just saw a post that made me think,,, some of you guys have been using a 110 for years. Has anyone wore one out?
I would think the 110 design is more robust than almost any knife out there. Is there another knife made in the 60s still in use today?

I have come across them sporting over sharpened blades and the handles beat up. But the knife is still functional. DM

Many designs left from the 60s and before. Case slip joints, saks and Opinels, okapi, k55k black kats, and many many more.

I have just sent in a real beat up 2 dot 110. I told them to do the best they could. The thing is the blade is in great shape so maybe they'll put it in a new frame??

Makael you need to proofread your thread heading....:D:D:Do_Oo_O:p

I hate auto correct. Thanks for the heads up.

this was my thought too when I saw the other thread. Wearing one out has never crossed my mind. Heck, I'd be proud to wear one out.

I never thought about it until now. I just don't think it is something I ever worried about. I purchased my first 110 in 1967 and it is every bit as functional now as it has ever been. I did wear out the sheath though.

Owning one knife and having a job cutting all day long would probably wear a blade out with sharpening. But, I have many knives and I actively search for things to cut all day long :p I wish I could put more miles on all of my knives! :)

Yes I wore two out. No power sharpening. Just daily use for around 30 years. The blades were still more or less useable but kind of thick. On one the point was proud of the bolsters so you had to be careful. THE LOCK WAS NO LONGER FUNCTIONING AT ALL. Please check the function of your older 110s ocaisionally.

The top two were in my edc rotation for 30 years, the middle is the one that had the worn lock.View attachment 1010615

I would be curious to hear more about the lock problems.

I have a 2 dot 112 that came to me used from a friend who used it while deployed. It has some vertical play that reveals itself working wood. Sort of a felt clunk/clunk/clunk as pressure is applied or let off of the blade.

Buck 110 and 112 by Pinnah, on Flickr

I sent it to Buck several years ago to pay for a repair and noting I was not the original owner. I asked they do the best they could without replacing the original 440C blade. They were able to reduce but not eliminate the vertical play. I believe they replaced and repinned the lock bar but that some of internal faces of the blade were also worn - hence the remaining play. This knife is a keepsake for me due to who gave it to me so it's retired to the knife roll.

All of my other traditional metal bolstered 110s and 112s (and 500s) have no play in them.

On the other hand, I've not owned a plastic framed Buck lock back (including an Ecolite) that didn't develop blade play - usually in under a year. Ditto all 3 of the Wally World Slimlines I've purchased.

IME, the metal framed traditional 110s are plenty durable, however I would not pry with them like I do with some other folding knives I own.

The blade was still tight. I realized one day it would close without pushing the button. Not sure how long I carried it like that before I noticed.

I carried it everyday to work for about a year after I knew it was worn out.

That's worthy of a patch. I wish I could wear one out but I don't see how. Especially since buck backs them the way they do.

I've never worn a complete buck110 out no,but I've worn 3 blades away to nothing on one alaskan guide 110 just to test the design Buck said was superior, guess what?they are superior, lol I took the 110 out lobster fishing and cut everything from rope to bait, fish carcasses ,everything you can think of!ANd the atlantic ocean couldn't make the at 110 blade rust, their coating is NOT a decoration lol.

Unfortunately Makael, I did not get a patch. They just took my $10 and sent it back looking new! Lol!

Can't beat Bucks service.

Not me personally. But my friends Dad gave him his old 110 from the 70's. For some reason it lost its spring tension on the lock back. The knife still locks up but you have to be careful with it.
