Has anyone wore out their 110?

The blade on my old, two dot, square frame, 110 shows some wear from sharpening. The bolsters have a radius worn onto them from going in and out of sheaths. I have worn holes into at least three sheaths, maybe four, to the point I was afraid the knife would fall out the bottom. And the lock is badly worn. If the pressure needed to close a new Victorinox SAK is considered a 5. I would say the pressure needed to close my 110 without disengaging the lock would be about an 8.

So is it worn out? I don't know. It still cuts. It still goes on my belt most days. It.s still the knife I grab if I want to get it open fast or one handed. I don't trust the lock, but I don't trust the lock on any knife.

Not me personally. But my friends Dad gave him his old 110 from the 70's. For some reason it lost its spring tension on the lock back. The knife still locks up but you have to be careful with it.
I have a 560 like that. one of these days I got to send it in to get the lockbar spring replaced.

You hve used that knife. Nice.

Quoted to emphasize the importance if this statement.

This is the reason I don't know how long mine was non functional. 110 locks are one of the very best but do wear out.

When a mechaincal device has such a small failure rate, it is easy to think they never fail. Most of the failures I've read about would have broken a stout sheath knife. But when a sheath knife fails it is in two pieces. When a lock back fails it's a mini guilitine.

If my memory is right, my worn 110 was the reason I joined here to warn others to check. Then somebody here talked me into haveing it serviced at Buck.

Glad I did join here, and value the friends I've made here. Great place to hang out.

Everything wears out eventually. It's nice to know they can be fixed, if so desired.

I say it's not really worn until the blade is down to a stub. I own a lot of different 110's. My most worn is a 2001. I don't have a pic but it's been sharpened so much it's now resembling a 112 blade. The more I use it the more I wish Buck would release a 110 with a 112 blade. The balance in the hand is perfect! I'm liking it more now than when I bought it new.

I have wore out more then one 110.
Two with lock failures and 2 with blades worn down past were they would hold an edge. All were sq framed knives. I have never wore out or had a lock failure on any radisused frame 110 ...

I've seen worn out Buck 110's in pawn shops and in pictures. However, I don't think I could ever wear out a Buck Folding hunter as I only use mine for skinning and butchering game. My use is in soft tissues, even rubbing it on bone will only dull it slightly, quickly fixable with a stone or ceramic stick. Many of the worn out ones I see in pawn shops have been abused by using in lieu of the proper tool and not used as designed. OH
