Has been and past their prime bands against Bush!!

It seems like the rock and pop musicians support Kerry, while the country bands are for Bush. I don't think the hip hop or heavy metal folks are supporting anybody, which is a relief.

My favorite country group has always been "Kinky Freidman and the Texas Jewboys". I don't know who they would support, but I'd vote for him.

The problem I had with the Dixie chix was not their viewpoint but the
venue in which it was vetted.
If you are a member of my family, say what you have to say in my house,
and be treated with the respect it deserves, but dont go down to the
local bar and blather about things of which you are only partially
informed ,with the primary goal to being to embarass those against whom
you cannot argue events or facts. ie the country that gave you the opportunity to begin with

thanks for that quote, t1mpani. Wish more of the rich-n-famous felt that way.

Dan,
Another you'd probably like is Anthony Hopkins' feelings on stating his political opinions publicly. I'm not going to put this in quotes as I just remember the jist of it and can't find it anywhere, but it basically ran:

I have my beliefs and opinions but they're my own. I should not have to defend them just because I'm a celebrity, nor should they get extra attention from people because I'm a celebrity.

This is another of his, that I will put in quotes because I know I've got it right. Sir Anthony is rather famously dismissive of how important actors really are outside of the theater:
"Remember, a great actor is just someone who has successfully pretended to be a competent person in a made-up story."

I've always loved that line. ;)

As far as the Dixie Chicks getting threatened, that is indeed wrong, but as Munk said, if you want to stand up and shout out your viewpoint it is your right, but you have to take what you get.

Sir Anthony who? What's this from?

A famous English Actor.

........

It's not as if no entertainment figure has ever been political- far from it. But we usually know coming in what our money paid for. I wouldn't expect a John Lennon to be apolitical, for instance.

But Linda Ronstand and Dixie Chicks?!! Yee gads.

Sir Anthony Hopkins...Hannibal Lechtor from "Silence of the Lambs" and many many other things. The first quote came from one of those news shows (I THINK it was 60 minutes) that was all about politically active (and determinedly inactive) celebrities.

The second quote was from the special edition dvd of "Red Dragon."

Obviously, his is only one opinion, but he's largely considered one of the greats, and doesn't seem to let it go to his head.

Oh.....duh. I misread and thought we were getting quotes from two different people.
