I made quite a few daggers throughout the '80s and on into the early 90s. Made 'em in all different lengths.
Check out those reverse blade catches. They work great if the knife is being held in a reverse grip and your hand just happens to be made of steel ! ! ! ! If not, your fingers will be "deanimated" from your hand before they can "catch" a blade!!!!. . . .OUCH!!!!!
If you look closely at the double flaming choils you'll notice the roughness on the inside of them. That is because these were "Field Grade" which meant that I was too drunk to put a lot of time into finishing and detail work. Mostly, it helped to keep the price down for the guys who were going to beat them and not collect them. The roughness also shows how all of my early blades were cut out with a bandsaw (pre-laser and pre-CNC VMC). The choils were made by drilling holes and then cutting into them with my old, rattling, wood bandsaw with homemade speed reducer!!!. . . .
I made nearly all of my old equipment back then because I simply had NO money!! Someday, I'll post pics of some remaining pieces, including my homemade abrasive cut-off saw with its modified frying pan blade guard and some of my killer cool grinders, that featured discarded washing machine motors along with my, then proprietary, homemade wooden contact wheels that I wrapped with rubber non-slip stair strips!!.. . . I can safely say that I was the only knifemaker who used these!!!
. . . . Surprisingly, they worked amazingly well!!!! . . . .
Ahhhh. . . Good times. . . . good times. . . . Time for a liquid breakfast!!!
Let's Drink!!!
