Has GEC ruined traditionals for me?

I have to admit the Le Theirs region knives have stolen my heart recently.
let me count the ways
one for curves graceful curves
another for spicy aroma of juniper wood
another delicate file work on the back spring,
another edge that will slice you don't respect it
another for satin brushed bolsters
another for the fabulous fit and finish

I am sure I may come around to GEC again someday but for now I am a fool..

This is where my knife obsession started many years ago, carried French knives ( and a German Boker ) for years. http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...our-French-traditional-regional-pocket-knives
, then I wanted a US made with the same heavy springs, found GEC bought a #54 moose, I like GEC a lot, and have a few, but Case and others also make great knives, they all offer something a little different, Boker makes a great knife at a great value, when I'm talking Boker I'm talking German classics not the economy lines. There are many brands I've never tried and recently picked up a Bulldog brand knife, it's well made no gaps, smooth action great snap, etc. I like what Gec has done and is doing, they make really nice knives, but others still do as well.

Wow! Look at the distribution of Case Dealers on that map linked by leghog. As a knife collector I'm living in the wrong part of the country. Course, I knew that already.

I've owned many a GEC knife but like you, I've parted ways and now have a small but nice collection of Le Thiers knives, mine are by Chambriards and to expound a little more on your good list, the steel used is the Gillette Razor steel and just Wow, very very keen edge it takes, along with the satin brushed bolsters, they are also stainless steel as is the Pivot pin is stainless as well, along with the liners too.
Perhaps a bit higher in price and harder to find, they are jewels in my collection of French folders, the others being a slew of Opinels ;)

While I love my GEC's, Schatt & Morgan are my favorites and I find Solingen Boker's hard to beat for the price. Case is in the middle there somewhere, as is Buck. As others mentioned, I'm pulling for Queen now under new management, to keep up the S&M line and increase the number of handle materials and patterns under Queen branding. :thumbup:

The silly part of my question (after thinking about it) is that I tend to edc a Case Sodbuster Jr and rarely carry my GEC. It could have something to do with the edge geometry that I put on the whittler, but the Sodbuster is a truly excellent knife for my purposes.

Hmm... Much thinking to do. ;)
The Case Soddie jr. is an absolute winner in my eye! Nothing to sneeze at there...if you haven't tried any of the Old Timers by Schrade ( USA made ), I would highly recommend seeking a non + stamped model on the secondary market, unless of course you are comfortable with S.S., Which they did a great job with as well, but their carbon steel blades were legendary for a good reason, and they tended to go with nice thin grinds. These factors contributed to making knives that had exceptional cutting abilities with great edge retention, and in my experience F&F was pretty good on their knives as a whole... GEC has kind of spoiled me as well as of late, but my eye is always roving looking for the next treasure to find it's way to my den :) Queen and S&M are high on my list, but their F&F seems to be hit or miss unfortunately, and GEC, though not perfect, seem to hit the mark more times than not in this department, ( from my own personal experience )...which is why they have spoiled me, personally ;)

Hahaha... WOW!!!... I took a look at that map... Wow, truly amazing how common Case dealers are in some parts of our country.. while some states don't even show as having one! My state, NY, does not show many either... but again.... some states are practically riddled with them. Wonder how such a big difference like that happens... hmmm?!
