Has the BK21 been discontinued?

I kinda had the same thing happen with my 20. The first time I chopped into a log it bounced back. It had the most wonky edge out of the box I ever experienced.
My BK1 came with a 90° angle on its edge. Amazing how bad it was!

disappointed to see the BK21 go but I stocked up and have a few to last me. It’s one of my all time favorite knives! If you’ve not yet had/used one, I’d recommend finding one if you’re even slightly into the big blades👍

I recall having to work on my BK21 edge a bit, but it's pretty nasty now. Those long blades and inner curves are a PITA to sharpen. I also had the Bundock, but sold it, figuring the 21 was more different from the 9 which was significantly lighter than the Bundock.

The Brute's were another era, and we've certainly seen a lot of work required on them to make them cut. IIRC, granitestateofmind granitestateofmind really worked his to get it cutting.

The guy I got my Brute from already reprofiled the edge, and it worked fine. Not a niner, but does okay.

I chopped down a couple of these trees that were too close to the house with my 21. I wasn't sure if the dogbone would be totally secure with the big kukri chops, but it was a solid grip. No shock in the handle either for tree chopping or firewood chops. Beast chops, lots of fun to use. Mine is very sharp and I have a sweet AZ Welkie sheath for it too, kydex with a dangler (highly reccomended to the guy in the thread looking for a new sheath.) It's the best sheath I have out of about 30. A great blade & a great chopper. Too bad it's discontinued. A lot of big blades are now, Idk if forged in fire kept them more relevant for more people in the past but they're much tougher to find these days. I have a lot of big high carbon choppers, they'll last forever. My first becker was a 5. This guy was selling a dope collection and I had to pick and choose, That caught my eye immediately. I sold it to someone looking for one when they were discontinued and I couldn't stop thinking about it so I'm glad to have found another. Good knife co sold it to me and put a slightly convexed edge and polished off a patina with scotch brite belts before shipping it to me. Somebody spent a ton of time grinding in a fully convexed polished Camillus 4 w/ blue handles. They modified a few different bk-4's different ways, and liked the full flat grind version best if I recall correctly. The convexed 4 is like a splitting axe head with a kukri oriented fat Becker handle attached to the end of a 1/4 inch convexed machete. Wild blade. My 9 stripped with grippy g10 has been the first choice for fire making many times. Some guy in Europe sent me the king and chop chop, I have a 7 with grip tape, a knife, but indestructable. I love all of 'em, so shoutout to Ethan in the Montana wilderness. It's kind of where I'd expect him to be living his best life.

If any one is fencing sitting, my advice is get it if you can afford it. If you regret it, sell it or give it a way later. Like I did with my BK4, I got it, liked it, and the rest went bye bye. At least I got one. My BK5, got it...it works so keeping it. They were going bye bye as well.

i bought several of the Reinhardt variations through the years, including the japanese made one (excellent)...

likely will sell off duplicates in the next few years ... except the japanese one (nobody can afford it lol)

amazing what sitting on something 30-35 years will do - eventually the never sells become mortgage or "just will never use" sigh

my logging kit will always have a long blade on it, just too handy for brush and light limbing

Finally getting around to giving my BK 21 some love.
Stripping the powder coat off was a bit of a struggle doing it outdoors at 40 degrees it took some time for the stripper to make the PC bubble off.
After the coating came off the blade had a nice straw or bronze look.
Sanding off the machining marks down the spine and around the handle is a bit of a PITA but the G10 scales were easy to sand smooth to the steel.
All in all its a nice simple project to undertake and it makes the knife yours.

I am grateful that I had the foresight to pick up a few spares. Sad to see it go but I can imagine the BK21 must have had a very niche market appeal. Like many things taken off the market the appeal will certainly linger and I predict increase over time. Those who stalled on picking up a BK21 may, in time, regret that decision.

as alluded in my last reply, the japanese made Reinhardt is ... next level - even by today's standards...

at one Blade, Reinhardt's wife was there with some show and tell including HIS khukri that everything else was based off :D noice
