Has the economy effected your INFI (or blades in general)?

I have heard some sad stories about job loss amongst other economic woes recently and just wondered how it has effected your collections. We are struggling due to educational budget cuts in our state. I still have a job, but it is changing daily and I have had almost all my side work (money for blades and stuff) canceled because people are scared of impending cuts in our district. I have had to cancel custom orders and pass on INFI that I would like to have, but have not let any go. So, I am very fortunate.

Anyhow, how has the economy hit your INFI? Not asking specifics, but since INFI is such a hot commodity I thought it would be interesting to see if others have had to use it for financial well being. I certainly have in the past.

don't know about stateside but I got made redundant in July last year (3 days before our twins were born). I sold a lot of stuff including most of my INFI, just starting to slowly start increasing again.

If you get knocked down just keep getting up !!

I have had to pass on some that I really wanted and now I just get the models that are the current offerings. I don't see that changing anytime soon either.

The economy hasn't directly affected me, to be honest - I was in grad school when the thing tanked, so I was already broke, and I was planning to take a postdoc, which usually pays pretty crappy, and the market for postdoc jobs is actually pretty recession proof.

In other words, I've been broke as long as I remember, and the downturn in the economy just meant more people around me were as broke as I am. So no, it didn't affect my infi purchases.

The only way it will really affect me is when I sell my house in a few months and have trouble getting out what I put into it.

It has made me look at it more from a perspective of "if you have most sizes and bases covered" that's all you need....but I am also finding moving on blades is now at a fair old loss if you are to find a buyer....and there are'nt as many of those by a long way....

However I think those who are safe have a good chance to pick up wise investments in knives....I don't see there being problems a few years down the line... and those with the right knives would do well....

I got laid off from my company on Oct 15th due to the economic changes. I was lucky enough to get a modest severance package, but I've been looking for a job since then. Going back further, my wife had to close her real estate appraisal business in Sept 2008. She's now got a part-time job.

The only way I get new INFI is to sell old INFI. That way the investment stays where it is, and I feel that if worst comes to worst, I can get at least the majority of the money back. Hopefully I'll be able to get something soon. I've had to pass on things I've wanted that I normally may have purchased, but that's just the way it is right now. No regrets, right? :D

Tough times for a lot of people.

I know exactly what you mean as I am in the same boat pretty much. :(

I have to be very selective on what I get now.

The only good thing is that I don't really have any bills to speak of so I am doing OK and can wait it out.

I am hoping things will get better sooner than later. ;)

I took a hit in May/June 2008 just before the real bust started but I got back up and running and things have been alright since then.

It has been hard on me, I dont have a good edumaction and I worked in the construction biz pretty much my whole life. When the economy fellout I had a hard time keeping decent work. I recently made a change and now work for a electrical/industrial distribution center where I am getting 40 to 50 hours a week. I dont make as much money but I also am not worried about not having work. I hope to work my way up to sales sometime(3 to 5 years hopefully) and maybe I can enjoy more Infi then.

It has effected me and i thinned my INFI down to the bare minimum just incase. My INFI fun money is a portion of my emergency fund.
When things get better at work (if they survive) and the economy is picking up steam and stable, I'll aquire a couple more but they will be exactly what I want and I won't buy unless the price is right. No more doubles or buying as safe queens and buy only what I can put to work.
If I desire a certain older Busse model/s, that is in limited numbers and being sold at collector prices, I'll look to other makers to get what I need. No more silly spending.

Yep, in fact I have to sell my SAR-4 to cover some medical bills that with our hours cut back at work, I can't pay for now.

I thought it would but it didn't. Yet... it did.
As a preemptive measure in case I lost my job, I stopped buying knives for a while.

This past year and still yet economic situation has bit our a** hard. I've been with my employer coming up on six years in 2010 and 2009 was the first fiscal year EVER we made absolutely no money not even enough to cover internal costs. We spent the entire year burning through cash reserves to stay alive. From what I'm told come this month some time I'll be joining the ranks of our casualties. Hoping it doesnt happen but I honestly can't complain in all fairness. I've watched all of my co-workers be fired these past thirteen months many of which were my employees all over the country.

I spent the better part of the holidays getting my 'emergency' budget in order so I can live on cash reserves and unemployment, LOL It's amazing how many meals you can get out of 48 ramen noodle packs :D

Many great knives out there...hopefully some will pop back up towards the end of the year.

The economy has definately hit me hard. My company closed my office back in September of last year. I''ve been doing much more selling than buying. Actually...I shouldn't be doing ANY buying...but it's SO hard not to buy if one that I've been wanting comes up for sale. Busse and self-disipline to not go together very well!

I've seen the old school ones drop considerably. I sold an old SHSH for $1,200 a while back and now they are down in the $800 category. the higher priced Busse's IMO are not going near as well as the CG versions. But of course, Trading is still good to go.

I got hit.

I worked as a contractor so now I don't get a penny, most my medical expenses were covered. But when I came back, our side business went kinda bad, so now I get only like ~$400/month out of it, and thats pretty much all I'm making at the moment.

INFI wise, well I was happy with my BATAC, but I do need a bit longer thicker blade, so I've been trying to offer people trades for my BATAC plus $$$ on exchange, but no luck so far. Then again in my situation I don't foresee any camping trips any time soon.

No worries though, I'm studying for LSAT and once I take the test in summer, I'll apply to law schools and will go from there.

Blade cost me more than I anticipated, but it was worth every penny I spent. My little pension just doesn't go as far as I'd like it to. I think the cost of gasoline really added up. Plus I have to drive more now. I really wanted the NMSFNO LE and the new BWM LE, but I chose to get the CG models instead. The downturn in the economy didn't hit me that hard since I am already retired and had already paid off my debts. I got some good INFI last year, including the KZ, NMSFNO, and BWM. Got the Waki, M9LE, and M9CG. From the Yard I got the SOD LE, another Bird Dog, another Scrap Muk, and the S5 and S5LE. And I got several new knives from RAT Cutlery. Yeah, I know, its only 1095, but I like their knives, too. Got a few more machetes, too. Quite a pile of steel for an old man. I don't think I've slowed down too much on my knife hoarding:D

I started out the New Year with another BWM.
