Has the Hinderer bubble broke?? Seems like there is a lot of about any grind of XM-18 or XM-24 on the second hand market and about 99% of these are new condition. I would bet the artificially inflated prices are on their way down as well. Maybe we can actually buy a $500. 00 knife for close to its designers price point.

It probably broke when the ZTs started coming out. I get the appeal of a midtech, but it's dimished when you can get an extremely high quality knife of similar look and design like the ZTs for a lot less. Let alone order one now and get it, not have the comical lead times you get with hinderers.

They seem like very nice knives, but the secondary market prices were insane. Think of the high end custom you could get instead! I will get one eventually, but I will pay the actual price when I do without the markup.

I'd be more inclined to get one if the $600-$1000 price tag actually goes to Rick's pockets. Why is it that only heroes deserve Hinderers msrp? Even suppliers sell it for a premium. It seems like this business model is by design as I see no efforts to expand to catch up to demand. I respect it, and I doubt that bubble will ever break. In my humble opinion though, a supposed mid-tech knife should be available to purchase and at msrp.

I personally never saw the draw. A knife like that isn't very useful for edc and for hard use...my Izula pockets just as nice for a lot less.

I agree with FCM.
I would have had a Hinderer by now if it wasn't for the extremely high secondary market prices.

I love the look and feel of them, they're nice knives. But I cannot spend the high amount of money people ask for them.

I never held one, but judging by its reputation in build quality and in use, I wouldn't figure it to be lacking in any way including edc and hard use for a folder. But, like you guys, I will not pay "estimation of the day" prices on the secondary. The fact that the majority of folks are willing to shows what kind of knife this is. Wish to have one, maybe I'll check my phonebook to see who of my friends qualifies for Hinderer's special pricing and see if they can get one for me.

I owned one and they are certainly worth the mid-tech prices but not even close to the inflated price. When I sold my gen3 3.5" I asked the same price that I bought it for which was well below the asking price now. Maybe when the market is saturated enough I'll pick up another one because they are certainly worth $400 for sure.

I see allot of Rolexes for sale on the watch forums, maybe the Rolex Bubble has burst too :)

The 3" XM-18s are pretty small, and I wouldn't baton any folder through a log.

I think he is saying the Izula is as easy to pocket but tougher in terms of hard use. IMO they are nice looking knives but are too thick for what most people use knives for. Kind of fun and all but not as functional as a knife that is build for slicing.

Second had Rolex's are not inflated on the second hand market. I can always pay less than msrp for a Rolex on the forum.

I dont disagree with Ricks way of selling his knives. He built them to meet the needs of soliders and first responders. It is simple really if you want one you will pay what someone is asking or you can justify not buying it by saying its not worth it.

The thing about it is, regardless of what you pay for them they are still worth what someone will offer you for it. What I am saying is even if you are lucky enough to find one for cheap you shouldn't carry it if you can't stomach the (secondary) market cost of one.

Hehe, I think there might be a market for a folding pocket axe. Any takers?
