Has This Ever Happened To You?

Great gift and story behind it Corey:cool:

Rachel, a really great gesture on your part:thumbup:

I'm at a loss ;) just to console you, he didn't trade straight away, it did take some effort on my part, not all trades do work out, I've missed some as well, hope that helps too ;)

And WOW I'm glad I didn't end up with this one and then post images of it...hehe, that truly would have been a sting! But Rachel, that's such a super kind gesture on your part that I'm sure they will write songs about it one day!

Beautiful knife friend, glad that you finally did get one and with the scales you like too, just an added bonus right there. I have a long boring story about the Eureka that I won't drag out here, but it's been a few years since I've been wanting to get one, glad we both have such a nice shaped frame and blades!

Great gift, Rachel! Cory, your story leading up to the receipt of this wonderful gift made me feel excited too.

Nice folks on both sides of this. :):)

Thank you all for the kind comments, and thanks to Rachel for posting. As Paul Harvey used to say "And now you know the rest of the story".

Gary, I almost didn't include my attempts to end up with your knife because I didn't want it to be taken the wrong way. I hope that you both know that I truly didn't have any negative feelings at all about you getting that knife. One of the great things about this forum is that it gives us all the opportunity to swap knives around, allowing us to get our hands on more knives than we could ever afford to buy. I wouldn't begrudge anybody an opportunity to exchange for a knife that they've been wanting. Now, if you had ended up with both Eurekas we would have had some words. :p

I had no idea you were in contention to trade for the one I got, until now, so I'm glad to hear no ill feelings, I was totally in the dark about your desires ;) but this gift you received, is most excellent !

Now, as you probably saw my photos of the one I got, I didn't leave it be, but ground down the blade, so that might help you not miss it so much since it's not the same Eureka as you were wanting...but I am liking that profile a bit more with the pointier blade. BOTH blades do sharpen up great, GEC did a nice job on the blades !

Enjoy that one and yes, I'm more a single knife guy otherwise I might have gone after the horn Eureka too if I were a collector, but my wallet and Spartan ways have prevented that as of late :)

Excellent! God has graced you both with the blessing of His generosity. You gifted the sheath knife and Washington State Apple Comission Colonial serrated Fruit Sampler knife. I treasure these and your friendship as well as your kindness. Enjoy your new aquisition! :)

Thank you.

Its the kindness that exists in all of us that keeps me going in this crazy world today. Very nice story and a special treat

This has actually happened to me as well, when a package showed up from the lovely Pertinex that contained a first run spearpoint TC Barlow in ebony. I was overwhelmed as well. I cherish that knife as it represents the people and the generosity of of this forum. Not a finer group anywhere.

Congratulations on a fine gift. It speaks to how you are thought of as well.

Congratulations, Cory; well done, r8shell.

Possessions cannot prevent sorrow, nor produce lasting joy in and of themselves.

But sometimes, the right thing(s) at the right time can point towards (and tether us to) a deeper holding beyond our own means and days, lifting our heads and strengthening our hearts, making us laugh (and maybe cry) and marvel at pocketable friendship made real once again.

At least, that's what I've come to know, often through the astounding generosity of others here. I don't even have to be the direct recipient; you all make me better.

Truly amazing what feelings a gift like that can bring forth. A gift well given and a gift well received. Once again I am humbled to be in the company of such fine folks. The fact that is so rare in the world we live in and so common on the porch makes sitting here a true privilege.

I really love this post and the comments! Rachel, that was really a great and wonderful gesture! Congratulations Cory!

What a wonderful post Cory, I'm very happy to read this and it brought a joy to my heart to see such a very thoughtful and kind gesture. That 92 Eureka Jack is an awesome pattern, one of my favorites. That spear/coping combo is perfection.

R8shell you are AWESOME!! I too have been the recipient of such wonderful gestures several times and it blows me away every time. Those knives are very special to me as they remind me that kindness and thoughtfulness still exists in the world, especially here in the Traditional knife forum where it's so often on display.

What a great post and two great folks!

Great story and a lovely gesture from r8shell! I always enjoy reading these (and I'm still surprised how often they pop up!), but yours really got to me -- you captured all sides of it so well.

Amazing how such a small thing as a knife can pack such an emotional response. It has always puzzled me how that happens.

The deeper I get into traditional knives, the more I'm finding this to be the case. It's fascinating.
