Has this guy accidentially stumpled over the Snakeskin recipe??

No.
1.) This is much closer to Dymondwood
2.) There was no "recipe", Snakeskin micarta was a mistake in manufacturing that couldn't be duplicated for reorder.

Not even close to snakeskin, which as the story goes is not repeatable despite at least two fairly different flavors consisting of the old "camo" (like on HOGFSH) and the newer more common brighter version of it existing. ;)
Snakeskin looks like it is simply green tinted Black Canvas then Red Paper then Tan Canvas then Red Paper then repeat from Black Canvas... why that is unrepeatable seems to be the mystery.

 ;)

Ok then :grumpy:

Well, it is not too far off, in my eyes.

And, I too am mystified by the "unrepeatedness" of snakeskin.

Why not just skin a boa constricter, and stabilize the hide??

Simple right. I agree it looks simple. We have tried numerous times to replicate the mistake that was snakeskin (both on our own as well as with 3 or 4 micarta manufacturers) and have had no luck. The process of repeating snakeskin is something I have been working on for years and believe me, if I ever figure it out you guys will be the first to know.

Garth, there is a micarta out in the wild that is close...closer than anything else currently, and it is called Python micarta. Looks pretty damn good, actually. Maybe, and if you can locate the source, a chat with that manufacturer might provide some good info?? :)

My attempt at snake scales.

A little bit of tweaking and I'll have it close enough for me. Hopefully :D

Busse should offer a reward for whoever is able to recreate snakeskin micarta. Say $10K shop credit?

Pure awesomeness. I need to try something like that. But I would Replace the red with a green.

That looks awesome Tyrade!

It usually looks like this:

But depending on how it's cut, it can look a lot different:

What is that second knife down I the first photo? It is close to a BATAC, but isn't (those are two BATACs below it, I believe). That is almost the perfect ratio with that handle, IMO. Since I got my BATAC, I keep thinking it would be about perfect if the blade was 3/4" to 1" longer!
