  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

Has your phone replaced all other devices?

Bob W, mine relies on the towers. When I travel, service isn't quite as good as at home. I would not rely on it in either a wilderness or a survival situation.
But I've never had an actual GPS receiver. If I needed one, from my point of view, a dedicated device would serve the purpose better than a phone.

No way a phone could replace my PC. Applets are not a substitute for the full applications on my PC. Phones have a tiny screen and limited functions. I can't imagine running a CAD program, image editor, sound editor, or 3D modelling program on a phone.

For actual work I need a real computer, sometimes several.

For everything else, I use my iPad.

I still use my iPhone for "on the go" tasks.

I couldn't do everything with just a phone.

I've got a desk top and a lap top and a tablet and a smart phone (yes, I'm a gear whore). If I was really pressed I could probably get by with just my phone, but I do still use the others.

I generally do most of my web surfing and ebook reading on the tablet, although I could use the phone for that.

About the only thing I really need the actual computer for is editing digital photos. You can do that to an extent on a smart phone, but I use a digital SLR for my serious photography and I need the computer to run Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom when editing large picture files.
