You can experiment relatively cheaply. The Fiskars Hatchet is $20 at the Home Depot or Lowes. See "cutleryscience.com/reviews/fiskars_hatchet.html" for a very thorough review, including comparison to a Granfors Bruk Wildlife hatchet. The Fiskars is just 17 oz in a 14" hatchet. It comes sharp, and the review shows you how to reprofile it for even better performance.

Check out Gransfors Bruks. Specifically, the wildlife hatchet (I have and love), or the mini.

Those are very nice hatchets... I have an old Collins hatchet I use and love.
