Hello and Happy Holidays to all!

I've been looking for a forum like this one to perhaps answer a question I have about a hatchet I bought (picture link below). I bought it for around $10 at an antique shop here in New England.

When I got home, I noticed the letters "US" engraved at the top of the hatchet blade. Perhaps someones initials? Military issued? I guess my question is does the "US" have any significance in regards to the United States military? Does it even say "US" or am I badly blind :)

Thanks for taking the time to view my post!

Tim

That there is a military hatchet, most likely world war 2. World War 1 hatchets typically had no markings on them. The ww2 ones would be like yours, or say US Plumb 1944, or similar markings, usually raised. Hard to say who made that, maybe plumb, but various companies made them, including Plumb, Mann, Collins.

Hope this helps!

Old WWII hatchet looks like to me also.

Could be a Plumb or another company that contracted to do these was called something like American Hoe and Tool Co.

I have my great uncle WWII hatchet but it was marked but they are a very nice little belt axe/ hatchet.

nice find.
