This is a hatchet/pack axe forged from a bar of 1045 with a Cutting bit of 5160 forge welded in..The poll on this hatchet has been heat treated just like a regular hammer..The head is 7 1/4' long with a 3 1/2" wide cutting bit.. Etched patina..
The haft is curly maple, stained with Aqua Fortis. Rubbed down with boiled linseed oil then finished with wax.The haft is 18 1/2" long with a swelled end.The sheath is made from 8/9 oz leather with brass snap and is hand sewn.
*Just for laughs I included a pic of the head just after upsetting the bar and welding in the cutting bit. Laying on the board the handle was made from**
We are asking**SPF**

I really like the looks of this one and a great looking sheath. Hopefully you'll be making more of these in the future, cuz I'd love to have one. I like the before and after pics. Could you get a couple of the bit being welded in? I think that would be interesting.

yea, we can do that...We are going to make more for sure..Several folks have asked for one so Lisa is putting together a list in order of who asked when..then we'll email folks and go from there..
Thanks for the kind words...Much appreciated..

I like the looks of this one also. Will be after the first of the year before I can think about
getting one though. :(
