Hatchet vs knife for splitting wood

I like a big chopper for splitting wood , does OK , I prefer it to my hatchet in fact

I have a slightly larger one too , that often does duty as an axe , or super heavy duty machete , makes super short work of branches stuff

yeah , it is a recycled leaf spring :) but its an awesome tool to use as well :)

An Axe works for me.

BTW, Myal, how did you ever make that spring straight?

Get a 12" ontario machete and call it a draw. The 18" machete is a better choice if you are doing more than just splitting.

I parked a car on it and lifted against the natural curve , moved the car , done it again , repeated a whole lot a times ... eventualy had a straight spring .

I happen to be a bigish kinda guy and can do silly things like that

it took two days with a wet rag and angle grinder to put a decent cutting edge on it . the temper of the steel is the same as when it came off the car . I just straightened it and sharpened it damping it down when it got warm to touch .

I do things a LOT different now days tho
