Hate not having a knife even 4 a little while

what about putting a lock on your luggage? i don't know how messed up the airport security systems are in the state but i travel quite a bit from canada to europe (at least 4 to 8 times a year) and never had anything stolen on my trips!

Lately theres is the system, i don't know if its available in the states, but here at the aiport you can have someone secure wrap your luggage with shrink wrap for like 2-3$ so you know than it hasn't been opened when you get it back!

Airlines tell you that they will crack your lock if they want to take a look inside, so make sure your luggage can be closed securely without a lock, or all your stuff will be allover the airport.

I tend to duct tape my hard suitcase together. I have several reasons for this. Its pretty easy to see if your luggage has been opened the moment it comes up the ramp, and would a luggage thief really want to risk that you duct taped it together because it cannot be closed properly without? (tons of cleanup and explanation)

To all those people worried about where to hide stuff in their suitcase.. Airports have xray equipment :p But generally, I think most people don't like to go through dirty underwear/socks to steal something.

i get very neurotic if i find that i have left home without a knife, whether to work or a social event. i never forget one if going into the out-of-doors. this is the main reason i dont not fly, i have a seriously impossible time relying on others for my protection, plus, i love it when a tool is needed for some important task, and im the only one to have one. sometimes chicks think im a bit of a dangerous (read freek) guy  LOL

As for flying with a knife, would it be legal/possible to put a knife into your checked luggage inside, say, an empty Maglite (metal body) with duct tape and even leaving the bottom cap off? that way, if picked up and shaken it will feel empty and not make a rattle. just tell them you thought it might be illegal to have batteries and you were gonna pick some up at your destination.

I have the same problem with being without a knife. Anytime I have to fly, which I avoid at all costs, I usually carry and older less expensive folder and take money to buy one wherever I am going just in case. I may not need to get one where I get there but I want to be ready. I really hate the fact that you can't take a knife on a plane, but as a side note you can carry a 3" bladed knife into the White House without a problem.

Yeah, that'll go over really well.

Has anyone ever thought about taking the knife apart? No one's going to steal a knife that's in pieces.
