So, I've known about these knives for awhile and always though they were gorgeous. I never see them on here though, is there something I don't know?

I'm an admirer of their fixed-blade hunting knives from pictures, but I don't own one and really don't know much about them.

His knives look good , but i believe many use AUS 8 steel , not my favorite . It seems the knives that use a better steel are quite expensive .

I love them to!! I like Japaese steel!! I know he handmakes a few and they are 600-3000$ not sure if the 3000$ knives are really worth it, but i hear they are AWESOME! .. Then the other story is Hattori mass produces a TON of production knives.. So who knows what you are getting.. I am in the market for sure, but dont think i can afford one lets its a steal:o)!

If I remember correctly, Hattori made both the SOG S1 Bowie and the Trident. I have the S1, and it's a great knife, even if the SK-5 steel is not the very best. It's not a Randall, but I'd trust my life to it, no doubt. In fact, I have mine within reach as I sit here right now, and it's one of the few knives I would grab without hesitation if I needed to bug out or confront an evil-doer breaking into my home. Also, I believe Hattori is the source of Fallkniven blades, another good choice for good fixed blades.

Hattori also makes some beautiful kitchen knives.
I've eye Balled a bunch but some were out of my price range or I don't really need more kitchen knives...

I had a Hattori VG-10 "forum knife " 270 suji and it was nice.

They are not fashionable. People also think Aus-8, or whatever number the steel is named by, matters more than where it comes from... This is really getting down to flavour of the month silliness...

Would you like to expand? I think Hattori knives ARE fashionably gorgeous, amybe you have some argument to prove otherwise.

I very much like AUS-8, and VG-10, apparently you have an issue with what those steels are called? Why?

How does the "type of steel" and "where it comes from" tie into each other?

And how are AUS-8, VG-10, or Hattori "flavors of the month" let alone silly?

Hattori makes a great product, and makes Fallknivens blades as mentioned earlier. They are very underappreciated.

But maybe you can convince me otherwise...I'm ready to listen to a cogent argument.

Are you trying t say that where an alloy is MADE, and where the Forge is located has more of an affect on the alloy than the actual makeup of said alloy?
That CPM Cru-Wear is better (or worse) than PD1 solely due to where it is created and not that the nomenclature actually denotes a different alloy?

Can you be more clear with what you are saying?

Also, you have responded directly to a 6 year old post......

What I am saying is that if is factory-made it will likely have better edge-holding than a custom made knife, and if that factory is in Japan, then it will be better than most other factories, and if on top of that it is stainless, then you really have something...

The bottom of the barrel in my experience, as for apex stability when chopping Maple at or just under 15 dps, is S30V (really high end custom), CPM 154cm (custom), and 440C (Neeley custom).

From the two CPM steels I have tried, and which micro-folded even at thick over 15 dps angles with astonishing ease, I would avoid anything made in CPM steels like the black plague... Yes the micro-folds were very tiny, but they appeared instantly on Maple...

Among the best edge-holding I ever saw was some cheap low-cost Parker-Imai 9.8" Buckmaster clone from a factory in Japan (so a low-price factory stainless with just "440" stamped on the blade), some of the Al Mar Aus-6 knives (factory), and the only good customs I've seen (out of many) were Lile in D-2 and a Colin Cox in 440C... I'd trust a cheap factory knife over most customs (as long as the factory is not Chinese or Taiwanese), no matter what the disparity in price...

And what does this have to do with Hattori, which is the topic of this thread, or are you just making some general observations about "steel" based on some anecdotal evidence.

And, again, why are they not "fashionable"?
