I love BFC too. This place confirms the fact that there is a lot of kindness left in the world. Ijust hope it never goes away.

Hello Phil: Excellent thread! You are the one who introduced and welcomed us to Blade Forums. Coached two computer illeterates how to subscribe and encouraged our participation. Today Blade forums is a nice part of the day that Angie and I share together. Friends about friends, discussions about knives, a common bond, just like it should be.

Hi Phil:
What Ed said---PLUS.....you have proven again that we New Yorkers may NOT be "golly geezing" all over the place, BUT there is a lot of substance there---MAYBE it just takes a discerning eye!!!! GOOD JOB.....
angie :)

Phil, hey buddy, careful or you're gonna shatter your hard earned rep.:)
Once again I'm forced to agree with you. A great bunch of people here.

Paul

Aw shucks, Angie & Ed you're making me blush. Fact is, it was purely selfish on my part, to get two of my favorite people posting on my favorite place on the Web. Besides, I knew you both were lurking and that you and everybody here would benefit from you posting when the spirit moved you. Plus, you folks are the reason that Bill Burke is now posting here also. And so it goes, the family gets extended and the friendships grow.

Don't think for a second that these people you meet here don't become as important to you as the folks in your own hometown. Vel, and his announcement of his second child is a perfect example. Or the family that needed some financial help to get through a rough time. Some of us may never get to meet face to face, I never got to meet James Mattis or Bob Irons, but I miss them every day. This all may be virtual cybre-space, but it sure seems real enough to me.

Darn it, now I'm sounding all mushy again. I need someone besides my wife to call me a Bastid. ;)

I've been hanging around for about a year now opening my big mouth on all sorts of topics and I gotta say, you guys are great! I have learned so much about knives and it has certainly changed my life in a very positive way. Bladeforums has stretched me as an artist and found me a lot of new friends and I've made few folks laugh along the way. Thanks!:D

I, too, have been here not that long, but this place has changed my world. Before finding the forums (Brendan, I don't think I ever thanked you for introducing me to my second home. You rock, buddy!), I didn't know what a vast world it was - all the customs, prodos, etc. And the PEOPLE! I was commenting to my buddy Eric (whom I've never actually met) what an amazing thing it is that people who share a common love can trust in one another, and care about one another without having seen each other's faces! The integrity and out and out good will I've found here surpasses almost anything I've seen in my "real world".

I've laughed til I cried here. I've gotten to know an AMAZING bunch of people (my fellow Suspects, as well as the myriad of people I see here day to day), and I'm proud to say I "know" all of you. :D

Thanks Spark!

I can't wait to put some faces to names, and share some beer, food and laughs at Blade '02!!

Don’t say anything at all...

But I feel this place is "home" to me as much as it is for all of you -and I want it to look - well - better ...and I want to say it out loud.

I know, I know - I like it here and have learned a lot from this place and the wonderful people that were kind enough to share their knowledge and experience...

BUT

It has been much better in the past.

Maybe it’s the people that left - some for a better world and some to other business...

Maybe it's the fact most of the threads seem rather boring, and maybe it's the less than kind and polite approach I sometimes see here -that have pushed me away.

I still lurk - and sometimes post - but its not the same anymore.

I know many old timers think like that - and have stopped coming and posting.

I even started lurking the OTHER forums...

and PhilL - you ARE getting soft in the head...:D

Ya know Gadi, I guess I must be. I don't know why I started this thread, maybe I was just feeling down and wanted to say and hear something upbeat? I know what you mean that things seemed to be better here and some old friends that have vanished for one reason or another. I find it harder and harder to find a thread worth reading let alone post on, maybe because what was new then is now kind of old hat now. I suppose that if we don't find an interesting thread to post on, and we don't start an interesting thread that other people want to post on then we have nobody to blame but ourselves. Or maybe we're just out of step with the people that now make up BFC.

I know that everybody looks at BFC and sees something different, for me it's social, for others it's just information, (what's the newest, what should I buy, how to make a knife?) and others that only post on the For Sale Forums. BFC Chat has replaced the Forums for the social part for me, conversation there still has a lot to do with what's happening on the Forums plus a lot more. There are guys that are on Chat every night that never post here anymore and that's a shame.

Still, BFC was what started it all. It's still the place I go to first when I log on. and it's still the #1 place for a Knifenut.

While it has been better in the past, it's still the best game in town. Alot has changed and some very good people have moved on. I try to remember that something that might be old hat to us isn't for new members.
Some of the friendships I have made here have extended over to "real" life, and some will last quite a while past BF. On the other hand, it's also become apparent that there will be certain makers and dealers here who will choose who to be friendly with by who can afford their knives. But that is ok too, as it helps make decisions on future purchases, so there is a positive side to it.

Gotta love this place.

MOST of the people here are great, and the information
I gain has helped me make some good decisions on my purchases.

I'm looking forward to my upcoming custom purchase (I'm stashing money, and gathering info now)and I will definately be purchasing from a maker who frequents these forums, or has ties to here.

I volunteered to help moderate the Exchange forums mainly to do what I could to make the forums a great place to be.

Thanks, everyone, for being a part of my life. I truly enjoy coming here.

I think that the 'romance' wearing off, has alot to do with where you are on the learning curve. At the bottom everything is new and interesting. The closer that you get to the top, the less interesting stuff is...
Having said that, there is alot of good fellowship to go around.
Ignore the trolls, be kind to the newbies and set an example :)
We also get an inside line on a maker's personality that may affect/effect any future pruchases. There have been a few that made fools of themselves and some that have shown, without a doubt, what stand-up guys they are.
Like the man said, it is the best show in town :)

I saw this thread before, "I Miss James Mattis" and I posted that it might not be a bad idea to go back and read some of James' old posts. For once I took my own advice and did just that, there's 41 pages of threads. I'm up to 1-99 or about 9 months before I got here. Ya know what? The threads were better back then. In fact, I think I can pinpoint exactly when BFC's threads started going downhill. It was the day I joined. :D

It is like the new man in town, walked up to an old timer and asked "What kind of people live here?" The old timer asked "What kind of people lived in your old town?" The new man said "They were a bunch of creeps". The old timer said "That is just the kind of poeple you will find here."

This Place is just what we expect it to be and what we make it to be. It is all up to us. We have leaders and folks who care about all members, Phil is a breath of fresh air, Keith Montovery is a friend to all. Many others, also deserve thanks. Good examples gentlemen, Thanks
