Have knife retailers and distributors started dropping Benchmade knives?

Just so some who have commented about this not being a big deal, this seems to be the general consensus on my gun forums. I spend way more time on gun forums than here and this is a big deal.

Both the knife owners and the gun owners need to support each other and their sides. I tell you once they get more traction on guns, knives are next. Tell me I’m wrong! Look at other countries.

It’s easy, just support all sides of the gun and firearm communities. We don’t want to lose anymore of our rights guys! This is kind of like the bump stock thing, do I have one? No! Do I need one? No! Do I want one? No! But I support the rights of those that do even though I don’t. They take away the bump stocks then they go after the collapsible stocks, then and then and then! It won’t stop.

All Benchmade had to do was say we support our police dept but we’ll pass on cutting up firearms for the you and this whole thing would have been a non starter. No one would have looked st their political donations either. I think they will definitely lose sales for a while but they will recover shortly.

I no longer have any Benchmades but then again I only have one Spyderco (older c53 titanium) a couple ZTs and the rest are CRK, Hinderer, Shirogorov and the like.

PS: I’m typing this out as I’m sitting here watching. Forged In Fire!! Love this show.
Love my knives as much as my firearms!

Alright but the guns would have been cut up anyways. They dont actually seem to be anti gun in any sense.

As big as a deal as it might be to gun guys, most gun guys aren't knife guys and thus it probably wont actually affect benchmade much.

I’m more focused on the knives and they do little for me. Not an Axis fan.

Most of you are aware of Benchmade's recent political disaster. I would like to know which retailers and distributors have started to drop their brand. I am sure that I and many others would like to support those retailers who value our civil liberties and that we would like to help some of these guys by directing our business their way.

Let's keep the political discussion out of this thread. I don't need to be convinced any further on the subject, I just think that we should help those who share our commitment towards protecting our rights.

So let's list any vendors that have chosen to act on this thread.

I am unaware of any vendors who’ve chosen to drop Benchmade over a social media tempest.

Any who would make such a knee jerk reaction would have likely been out of business long ago.

Personally, I have dropped a Benchmade. Fortunately it didn’t land on the tip.

Next question?

You guys are right nothing political about Benchmade knives
With the way things are going in SF, the city might drop the gun stores. It won't happen overnight but things are getting very PC in the bay area.
They got rid of all the gun stores in San Fransisco in 2015

lONG LIVE BENCHMADE...

All the LGS around me will not restock BM once inventory is gone, but I live in an extremely pro 2A area.
They were beyond upset over the fiasco.

Knives in Gun shops are an accessory, and it won't effect them at all.

Incorrect.
1.) "Gun guys" represent the overwhelming majority of BM purchases.

2.) There was no court order to destroy those guns.
It was only OCPD department policy, started by the Chief of police.

3.) If it wasn't such a major issue, BM's owner wouldn't have bothered with making a video trying to explain the actions.

That's the thing, though. Nobody to whom this was an important sales line has or will drop them. A mom and pop brick-and-mortar FFL dropping Benchmade will not noticeably affect Benchmade, either. Those stores probably rarely sold anything.

When stock sits on shelves at larger stores, you'll see them declining to restock the brand.
It will take more than a few days.
A blind man could see this will affect BM in the long term.
Even BM knows this, and they are quite concerned.

It's not like BM sales are a defining part of any store, nor are they the only game in town.

I think you very much want this to happen, but many of us are less sanguine about the actual likelihood that it will. I doubt this will affect them much.

I think you want this very much to just go away and be forgotten.

It's not the guns, or the donations that matter most.
It's the integrity.
BM is untrustworthy.
They lied.
Got caught, and lied again.
Then tried to do damage control, by having the owner lie some more.

Integrity matters alot to people who have integrity.
Not so much to those who don't.

I only own one Benchmade, which I got secondhand, and I'm mainly a Spyderco person for production knives, so from a knife-buying or fan perspective it doesn't really affect me much either way.

I'm just a big fan in general of tolerant social discourse, which to me means I don't hold people I socialize with or businesses I patronize to much in terms of ideological purity tests.

Unless you live where Benchmades are made you probably dont understand why they would donate money to gun grabbers. Unfortunately thats about the only play open to them. Wish it was different but been here most of my 63 years and thats the way it goes here.
Exactly. People don't understand the buisness climate of the North Willamette Valley.

You are going to need to back up this statement with proof.

I don't think this will impact BM much at all. Most people buying a Benchmade will have no idea of this incident.

As said above, you probably want this to happen, but I very much doubt it will. Benchmade is the most well known higher end knife company. This wont really affect them.

If you have a business in the 21st century, you will make somebody mad and they will rant about it on the internet. It happens to me at routine intervals. Most people dismiss the criticism as drivel and go on with their lives. I have clients tell me that they laughed at some of my reviewer's comments. I laugh at them too. For Benchmade, this crisis(?) is a small wave and they are a big ship. They will stay the course.

How far should the mindset go....There are a few knife companies that manufacture in California, perhaps the most anti-gun state in the country. By doing business in California (through business taxes, land taxes, municipal permitting, etc, etc), an arguement could be made that these California knife companies are supporting California's anti-gun legislators via proxy; by doing business in California.

Benchmade will not be effected, long term, the vocal few will move onto some other company to rally against.

I don't think gun companies are upset over Benchmade destroying guns in cooperation with police because it just means more profits for them from people buying new guns rather than used guns. People from Benchmade have donated to Democrats, but there are always tons of reasons behind decisions like that — some strategic and some personal. Even the president has donated to Democrats who support gun control in the past.

It's tough in this climate to tiptoe the line between the political extremes and I think Benchmade will ultimately weather the storm as people get outraged about something else.
