I got my husband this new ZT recently. He had been wanting a chess knight head for a pocket fob for some time on other knives he had. He usually has something tacky like a skull or one of those monkey ball thingies for a fob. He was a big Paladin fan back in the day. So I thought I would surprise him and went searching on ebay for a knight's head. I finally found this one and gave it to him to attach. This is our first effort and it may be changed up a little after he uses it for a while. Whada ya think ??

Welcome to the Forums!

I used to have large pewter, silver, or titanium lanyards attached to a lot of my knives. I eventually found them to be cumbersome and heavy, and sometimes "tacky" like you said:D

Nowadays I prefer a small and subtle leather lanyard dangling off the end. Sometimes, I'll add a small titanium ring like pictured, but typically I'll just leave it with plain leather. In my opinion, leather adds a nice classic element to any knife, and it's still strong enough to function as a "pull".

Some people like the big and heavy lanyards, I used to as well. My tastes have changed, however, and now I don't hear "what's that hanging from your pocket" from people anymore lol:)

Enjoy your stay on the forums! Your husband is lucky to have a gal that supports his knife habbits:D

I think it looks cool, but I wouldn't carry it in my pocket due to another lump. Don't know how thick it is? I seldom use lanyards. But it certainly makes a thoughtful present.

I think it looks a bit big. Both the lanyard and the knight are kind of overshadowing the knife, and are probably contributing a significant amount of weight. That might just be personal preference. If he likes it he should carry it.

I agree that it looks a too big.

For me, it would be perfect if the length of paracord and size of the knight were about half to a third of what they are. Also, I'd attach it through the lanyard hole with paracord rather than the metal ring.

Very cool overall and a unique idea for a pendant.

I love the knight it's self, it is very cool. I would use a smaller lanyard though. I think Paladin would approve.

There was an old tv show from the 1960's called "Have Gun Will Travel". The main Charector (played by Richard Boon) was a gunfighter named Paladin. His trademark symbol was a Knight chess piece.

Ohh alright, I thought it was a reference to somethin...

Yep, I figured there would be some who had no idea who Paladin of the chess knight head meant. Age has its limitations. (both ways)

Yeah it's even a little before my time, but I used to watch reruns when I was little, in the 70's. Gunsmoke was another favorite.

Looks like it'd be cumbersome and take up a lot of pocket space... Plus when you have it clipped it'll look huge sticking out of the pocket.

Gunsmoke was always my favorite.

hey whats the knife in the middle? i want one. great design man!

It'd look a lot better in my opinion if you used less paracord, just enough to hold the knight's head in the position you want. Otherwise I think it goes well with the knife.

It's a Carson Tech Boiling flipper and I hope I like it! Blues Bender has good taste and I love the looks of it so I ordered one. If I don't like it I'm gonna blame it on BB!

Haha, yep that's it Mike. I'm sure you'll like it, they're great knives:thumbup: They flip better than other flippers in that price range, and overall quality is top-notch.

You're a nice lady for supporting your husband. I think that the chess piece is too large, but the idea is excellent.
