Have we lost a long timer?

I see it on other forums that I belong to as well. People have left in favor of Facebook, which I have absolutely no interest in. I couldn’t even tell you if Buck has a Facebook presence. But I get that it is my personality to be less social and I am okay with that. I sure appreciate all of the fine knives and comments that you fellows present every week on this forum and all of the time Roger puts in on the show. Take care.

I think I’m probably on the youngest end of the crowd here. Even I don’t care for Facebook or any of that other social media stuff either. I have them, but I don’t use or frequent them. I don’t update life, upload photos, or search for “groups.” It never even dawns on me most of the time, as I have no interest in “knife stuff” on non knife sites. I strongly prefer the Buck family here on the forums anyway. Social media can’t give us that in my personal opinion. Ymmv.

I was wondering about Haebbie also but didn’t want to ask. I took a long break from this forum and another one I like a lot. Getting back on here and finding that Dave Martin passed away was disheartening. I always enjoyed his post. I didn’t want to ask about Haebbie in fear of something similar.

I’ve tried the Facebook groups but to me they just aren’t the same. In the forums for me you build relationships to a degree. It just seems to me on Facebook you don’t.

Well, Saturday was National Grouch Day, and I felt right at home. I think the forum has seen a change in the last 10-20 years. This forum and the BCCI facebook forum now seem to have little interest in the history of the knives—the emphasis has become "look at what I just got" , especially some limited edition or after-market custom knife. Sometimes threads are started for a particular model and the starter of the thread is surprised about such basic things as the date for first production of the knife model which is the subject of the thread. I wonder if, for me, it might me just as good to find a handful of kindred spirits and communicate privately.

I am not an expert of Buck knowledge, however, I have spent a good deal of time researching/learning from the incredible amount of information available from Mr. Oden's fantastic book and the decades of newsletters/articles covering the gamut of Buck models. I think the immense amount of available resources might take away from discussions in that the information one seeks is readily available.

I would bet that the knowledge base of forum members is well above average. I hope you gents respected as "old timers" or experts would not choose to separate yourselves from the forum as I feel it is a hidden gem due to your participation. This may not be the most popular site, but I have never been interested in what is popular and have found the greatest knowledge/value in the those things that few are aware of.

I just posted a thread today about my old Buck selector and some other rambling. There was one comment. 🫤

Things are slightly different here in the Buck section. Once in a while I look at the General knife section and am kind of overwhelmed by all the very weird names other companies and even Custom makers come up with..Sometimes I just bust out laughing at what they come up with. Buck DOES have a few like the 'Reaper' and others but nothing like many over there came up with. I can see a bunch of serious guys in a meeting trying to find a new and catchy name..Some are really funny.

Makael (Mike Looper) is another interesting guy who doesn't play here any more.
Starting Fixed Blade Friday thread was his last hurrah as I recall.
New career for the most part. Its kinda like going to school again but starting at 56. Became GM at a small manufacturer of Diesel Injectors. From stock to race. Everything is balanced and honed for matched sets. I had no idea some of this manufacturing was in the US.

I did get bit by the new IRS crew for sales back in 2020 just a month or so ago. Since then Ive shipped first then when package arrives and is satisfactory get payment. Kinda turned the risk around on the seller (me) vs the buyer.

I still have all the leather and equipment I intend to get back into soon. just having fun for now.

Good to hear you are doing well.

Mike I’m glad you are well. Glad to hear about USA manufacturing too.

Im not the rock star member sone of you are. But my son knows to let you all know if something happens to me.

Please make similar arrangements everyone.

Crazy bunch of friends we have here. Crazy how much you can care about people you never met in person. Wish we all could sit around a camp fire.

I dont use any of them myself either. have zero interest in facebook, Twitter, tiktok, Instagram,

I’ve learned to like instagram, because for me it’s not so much about total strangers sharing pics of family vacations and personal information.

I use it to follow sports, car guys, knife and gun manufacturers, and stay in touch with like minded people as well as family. My version is pics of cools stuff and not idiots rambling on about nonsense.

Same!

I’ve often wondered whatever happened to DesertChris? He used to make it a point to shave with his knives. But that has been five years or more ago.
I peek in once in a while.
Patiently waiting for the November BOTM and hoping it is a Kitchen knife!
Might need to shave with the Cleaver I got last year 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣

I need to figure out a replacement for Photobucket, since I refuse to pay them.
