Has the bad economy affected your knife purchases, or are you budgeting/cutting back on other things to allow for knife purchases?

Yes it has and now more good factory slipjoints than custom or semi-custom slipjoints or fixed. Probably will not change any time soon.

Not really. I've always bought things that were in my budget. If I want something that is not within my budget I save for as long as it takes to afford what I am interested in.

i definitely have to budget and not spend aimlessly. i window shop alot more and make sure i need it or will use the knife otherwise it's a no buy.

When the economy tanked 5 years ago, yes it did. I don't know about the rest of the Country, but here in Central Texas (a/k/a The Peoples Republic of Austin), the economy is now booming and my knife purchases have increased accordingly.

I held back all purchases during 2008 crash, but lately if it is within my budget, I buy it.

how can austin be booming and the rest of the country hurting? maybe i should move to austin.

Spending just over $300 a month on gas is taking a bite out of my extra cash but I'm fine with saving for a while if I really want something like a nice knife yet don't have the cash on hand (I don't want to touch savings for toys).

Cut back? Not really. Try to do more trading and that works well. But sometimes leads to a purchase of another model from a particular brand.

Too funny, I'm buying knifes because ammo is still too much.

BTW my pay has dropped quite a bit too. :(

I've cut down on the purchases but doesn't have anything to do with the economy! More like getting married next summer and have a child now... :)

Economics has never been an all or nothing type of thing affecting people the same across the board. The fields of nursing, technology, and others were not nearly as affected as others.

Very true, friends of mine in the medical field (one is a nurse) are doing as well as ever. Of course, many things are affected by raising fuel costs and that has a way of touching us all but most of us still find a way to spend money on those things that are important to us after making sure everything is is taken care of.

I've only been into knives for the last two years, so I would say that I haven't been affected. Reading some older forum posts has made me realized that prices have gone up, however.

not to get off the subject of knives but i'm looking into a new field and nursing might be the way to go.
technology not sure for me. it took me a while to figure out how to post pictures on this forum.

It hasn't affected me personally so I'm buying more knives. You can make a killing in the market if it goes up or down.

In short no.

I never had much money, so not having much money still means I am right where I have been.

I have been doing a lot of trading instead of buying though. Much easier on the wallet, and I can keep only what I want to.

Things actually got better for me during this time that is hard for so many people which is really sad to say but true. I am a property manager managing a bunch of rentals, mostly apartments, and after people lose their houses they turn to renting an apartment 9 times out of 10.
