Have you ever broken a knife from normal use?

I hade a 90’s Schrade single blade break the back spring just opening it. I had a USA trapper 65 to 69 break the back spring laying on a cabinet I heard it pop. A SOG Altair fell apart on first trip through the washing machine. I consider that to be normal wear and tear for a knife they all get washed sooner or later.

I broke the tip off a spyderco tenacious. It snapped like glass cutting a piece of plastic at work

From normal use? I can only recall some chipped and rolled edges, not really any breaks or catastrophic failures.

From "ab-normal use" that really should not have resulted in a break? Yes. Specifically, I stuck a Benchmade CSKII into the top of a wooden fencepost. For reference, the CSK was similar in design and dimensions to a Cold Steel SRK - thick and sabre ground, designed to be a rough use field knife. I wiggled the knife ever-so-gently to remove it and 3/8" of the tip snapped off. It honestly felt like breaking the graphite tip off of a pencil, not a thick steel blade. So, idk if that counts as "normal use," but I have put more torque on thinner blades that have taken zero damage.

They stand behind their stuff. I’ve had em fix or work on a few over the years, but never had to send one in for replacement. And believe me, I’ve tried.🤣
There's a thread I made years back with pics, when I lived up north and got my bar stuck in a large tree far in the woods, I didn't bring an extra bar and chain and use my knife as a wedge and pry bar to get my bar free. My unwillingness to trench through deep snow a half mile back to the house to grab a spare bar and chain led to the Idiocy lol but it worked and technically the knife didn't break but it did take a set. Sent it in and they replaced.

I went and read that and I don’t know what he was, but it probably rhymes with “schmoron”.

We’ve been beating on these things a while my friend, and if that’s the only trouble I think we’re on to some good shit👊😀

Hell yea, tons of new and cool steels have come out and I still love me some good ole infi. I snagged the folder and sharpened it up yesterday, I love how easy it is to make infi shave.

You got great taste in blades Will.

Bro, we right here like this. 🤜🤛

I've never done serious damage to a knife under normal use. I worked outdoors for quite a few years, in very remote places. My kit got lots of honest wear, but I tried my best not to break anything since I was far away from even a small village.

I did somehow manage to break the very tip off of a Frosts 740 (I think that's the model number, a basic Mora known as a "SWAK" back in the day) during a SAR mission. I didn't notice until getting back home, a few minutes on the stones sorted it and the knife is still in my backpack.

I bent some Leatherman bits, they aren't very strong. Luckily, they are easy to replace. I also had the scissors on a Leatherman Squirt break (the spring), I'm too far away for warranty repair to make sense.
